Summary Statement
An incumbent plans, manages, and directs all aspects of field and studio video production, systems development, streaming operations, inventory control, and budgeting. Responsibilities encompass collegewide video production recording, post-production editing, streaming, and archiving.
Nature and Scope
An incumbent in this class reports to the Director of Audio-Visual Administration in the Information Technology (IT) Division. Duties include designing and implementing video system configurations; scheduling, coordinating, and providing video streaming services; and scheduling, coordinating, producing, directing, editing, and distributing videos to advance collegewide initiatives. Principal contacts include college leadership, faculty, staff, and other internal collegewide clients, as well as representatives from business, industry, government, education, and the broader community. This role also supports the College's external relations and marketing efforts through strategic multimedia production and distribution.
Principal Accountabilities
An incumbent may perform any combination of the below listed accountabilities:
- Produces, directs, and coordinates studio and field video productions, including creative, technical, and logistical details, for college administration, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Conceives and creates computer-generated imagery and graphics for incorporation into productions.
- Edits and finalizes media products in coordination with appropriate College stakeholders, and manages digital archiving and distribution, including original footage and edit decision lists (EDLs).
- Coordinates requirements with campus representatives providing technical support and equipment and streaming services for the College and outside clients.
- Oversees the creative and technical production of programming originating at the campus locations for streaming or content delivery network (CDN) (e.g.Vimeo) distribution.
- Administrator for two Vimeo archives, one for in-house video productions and event streaming, and one for collegewide instruction.
- Keeps current with state-of-the-art trends and emerging technologies using technical publications, user groups, associations, and technical meetings.
- Directs, trains, and evaluates staff in both technical and aesthetic aspects of live and recording video production, while also providing orientation and training for faculty, staff, and other clients, including coaching to enhance on-camera delivery skills.
- Designs and implements video system configurations to accommodate long-term and short-term facility requirements.
- Prepares program budgets and production schedules and negotiates contractual agreements with outside service providers and talent (actors, narrators, etc.) when necessary.
- Coordinates all fiscal and financial operations of production facilities and services. Prepares bid specifications and creates and submits annual and project budgets.
- Develops special reports and utilizes ITIL/ITSM processes and procedures to address service requests and metric reporting on system performance.
- Purchases, maintains, and performs inventory of necessary video and production supplies.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the principal practices and aesthetics and techniques of audio and video field and studio production.
- Knowledge and experience with industry-standard non-linear, online and offline post-production
- techniques and systems, hardware, and all related software.
- Knowledge of the theory, applications, components, configurations, and operations of broadcast systems and media equipment.
- Knowledge of video transmission systems to include internet streaming of live events and teleconferencing applications.
- Knowledge of audio and video teleconferencing systems (Zoom, Teams, etc.)
- Knowledge of professional animation, compositing, and graphics software for multimedia production.
- Knowledge of encoding and compression of media programming digital formats for internet distribution applications and use in personal computers, presentation software, etc.
- Ability to maintain media equipment, including troubleshooting and diagnosing issues and submitting resolutions in an expedited manner, usually under extreme time pressure.
- Ability to effectively utilize software designed for professional computer editing, animation, and compositing.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite programs.
- Ability to effectively manage, coordinate, and complete simultaneous projects within strict timeframes.
- Ability to make cost projections and develop budgets.
- Ability to lead employees and to manage, direct, and coordinate talent, crew, props, and all other production elements in various collegewide and community environments.
- Ability to work with and direct institutional leadership personnel throughout the audio and video field and studio production process.
- Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) and relate to a diverse population in a multicultural environment.
- Associates degree in a relevant field and five (5) years or relevant experience, including all aspects of multimedia production; or other equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Familiarity with traditional and web-based multimedia design, development, editing, and production.
