Plan and implement the Faith Community Nursing Program of Methodist Health System.
Supports the mission, vision, values and strategic goals of Methodist Health System.
- Masters Degree in Nursing required
- Licensed in Texas as a Registered Nurse
- Completion of Foundations of Faith Community Nursing course
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Functions autonomously and collegially within MHS and in the community
- Functions autonomously in setting own hours and developing working relationships with other departments, disciplines, and organizations
- Demonstrates active relationship with a faith community of choice
- Work Experience: 5 years or more experience in the patient or healthcare education setting using computers
- Proficient use of technology, databases, and online systems and platforms
- Recruit, develop, and sustain partnering relationships with faith communities in the MHS service area to intentionally address multi-dimensional whole person health. Expertly connect with, navigate, and educate individuals and groups in areas of faith life, medical, movement, work, emotional, nutrition, friends and family using the Model for Healthy Living.
- Improve faith community health measurements and outcomes in each congregation using the nursing process: assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate health and wellness initiatives for each partnering congregation and the communities they serve.
- Build long-term trusting partnerships with local faith communities by planning and implementing meaningful programs, meetings, and events. Deliver expert education and program development to pastors, faith community nurses, and congregational leadership. Provide mentoring, support, and education to faith community nurses.
- Leverage relationships with pastors/faith leaders, faith community nurses, and lay leaders in local congregations to align and connect MHS strategic vision and related initiatives with local faith communities' visions and promotion of health in their congregations and communities.
- Inventory, review, and mobilize MHS resources with existing and emerging community-based health initiatives and resources. Challenge internal and external systems to meet identified community needs/social determinants of health and advocate for opportunities to improve the whole person health of our neighbors/partnering faith communities.
- Work with area health systems, providers, social agencies, and initiatives to maximize the health of our communities. Collaborations may include DFW area health systems; DFW Hospital Council Health Systems Faith Network; local behavioral health authorities; South Dallas/Fair Park Pastors' Coalition; DeSoto Police, Clergy, and Community; hunger solution initiatives; Methodist Medical Group physicians and professionals; etc.
- Collaboratively serve Methodist Health System employees, physicians, patients and families, and community members through professional expertise and specialized training. Examples may include Mental Health First Aid instruction, Critical Incident Stress Management response, Nursing Professional Development education to nurse residents and interns, etc.
- Demonstrate expert professional nursing leadership when providing faith community health screenings and wellness events. Responsibilities include management and professional oversight of personnel, equipment, specialized training, protocols, site management, documentation, education, motivational interviewing, goal setting, and referrals. Able to respond to acute health crises and emergency situations.
- Complete and actively maintain Westberg Institute/Spiritual Care Association Faith Community Nursing Coordinator & Educator statuses and functions. Serve as an expert and resource for Faith Community Nursing colleagues locally, regionally, and nationally.
