Lead Software Engineer

Cobot is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain the core software stack that powers our innovative robots. In this pivotal role, you will take charge of software architecture and development practices, ensuring our systems are scalable, maintainable, and ready for production. You will work closely with research engineers, platform teams, and autonomy developers to create robust, high-performance software across a distributed fleet of robots. In addition to writing reliable code, you will play a key role in enhancing our engineering culture, advocating for best practices in the software development lifecycle (SDLC), mentoring teammates, and guiding autonomy engineers in design and implementation. This is a hands-on position ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about translating cutting-edge robotics concepts into real-world applications.

This role is based at our headquarters in Santa Clara, CA or Seattle, WA.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, integrate, and support our innovative software stack.

• Collaborate with research and software engineers to craft maintainable and testable software solutions.

• Lead the charge on SDLC best practices across the software teams, including design and architectural guidelines, development protocols, and review and testing practices.

• Architect and deliver solutions focused on scalability, maintainability, and performance.

• Partner with the Platform team and Cloud Engineers to ensure efficient, secure, and scalable software deployment to our fleet of distributed robots.

• Mentor and guide autonomy engineers on effective software development approaches.

• Review technical requirements and translate them into clear high-level designs and plans to aid in development.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

• 5+ years of experience working within engineering teams.

• Proficient in C++ and Python, with a willingness to learn new languages or technologies.

• Knowledgeable in operating systems, device driver integration, real-time systems, concurrency management, and memory management.

• Experience developing high-reliability, production-grade software for robots or similar autonomous systems.

• Professional background in autonomy, robotics, or a related field.

• Willingness to travel occasionally.

• Must have and maintain US work authorization.

• A motivated team player with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic start-up environment as part of a small team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced degree (Master’s) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field.

• Familiarity with ROS or other communication systems.

• Experience with Embedded Linux or RTOS.

• Background in software architecture and system integration.

The base salary for this position ranges from $180,000 to $215,000, in addition to equity and comprehensive benefits. Our salary ranges consider the role and experience level, reflecting the target range for new hire salaries in the specified geographic area. Individual pay within the range will depend on factors like job-related skills, experience, and education.
