Position Overview
The Inpatient Phlebotomist will be responsible for conducting phlebotomy on inpatients—including adults, adolescents, and infants—while ensuring exceptional patient care and effective communication with staff and patients.

Essential Functions:

  • Promote the mission and values of the organization.
  • Maintain high standards of performance in all job responsibilities.
  • Collaborate professionally with laboratory personnel, physicians, and hospital staff to enhance patient care.
  • Ensure patient identification, specimen labeling, and result entry adhere to safety protocols.
  • Stay up-to-date with hospital policies and procedures along with state and federal regulations.
  • Assist in training new employees and students when assigned.
  • Collect specimens for laboratory testing, including newborn screening and urine drug screens.
  • Utilize computer systems for accurate identification and documentation.
  • Support other laboratory areas as needed.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Completion of phlebotomy training or relevant work experience; certification preferred.
  • Proficient interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to react effectively in complex situations.
  • Capable of handling multiple responsibilities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with laboratory equipment.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and exhibit professionalism in all interactions.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced environments; exposure to blood and body fluids, and infectious diseases is expected. Physical demands include lifting up to 40 pounds, frequent bending and walking, and prolonged periods of standing.
