Senior Staff Engineer- Hardware

Seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to play a key role in designing & developing embedded systems from initial concept through production. The Senior Hardware Engineer's expertise will drive the architecture, schematic design, PCB layout, and system integration of cutting-edge wireless and IoT solutions. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust hardware performance, optimize power efficiency, and meet industry standards. This role also involves mentoring junior engineers, troubleshooting complex hardware issues, and working closely with customers to deliver high-quality solutions.
This opportunity may be direct-hire or contract-to-hire. Target salary range is $120,000 - $130,000, with a solid benefits package for fulltime employees. Candidates must be local to the Raleigh, NC metro area, as the role is primarily onsite at the company HQ in Morrisville, NC. No visa sponsorship or relocation assistance is available for this opening.
Responsibilities of the Senior Hardware Engineer:
- Lead the design and development of embedded hardware solutions, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and system integration.
- Own technical solutions for projects, ensuring designs meet or exceed performance, cost, and reliability requirements.
- Conduct circuit simulations, signal integrity analysis, and power management optimization.
- Select and integrate microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, power supplies, and other key hardware components.
- Perform hands-on debugging, testing, and validation using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other lab equipment.
- Collaborate with firmware engineers to optimize hardware-software interaction.
- Document designs, test plans, and technical reports for internal and customer use.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on best practices.
- Lead and participate in project, customer, and other meetings as required, providing insights and recommendations.
- Collaborate with management and colleagues to continuously improve processes and enhance efficiency and quality in hardware development.
- Generate weekly status reports to assess progress and document technical status and potential risk of all current projects.
- Relevant Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience)
- 7-10+ years' professional relevant experience, at least 5+ of which have focused on embedded hardware design, including schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Strong experience in Altium designer software.
- Strong understanding of digital and analog circuit design, power management, and signal integrity.
- Knowledge of high-speed digital interfaces (USB, SPI, I2C, UART).
- Experience with wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, WiFi, LoRa, NFC, Cellular (LTE), GPS/GNSS.
- Hands-on experience with hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret functional specifications, datasheets, and application notes.
- Strong professional skills including problem-solving skills, attention to detail, teamwork, independent work, communication, and documentation.
- Experience with low-power and wearable device design a plus.
- Experience with hardware security and encryption techniques a plus.
- Understanding of mechanical design considerations for embedded hardware a plus.
