A pre-IPO AI tech company is seeking a hands-on and strategic Corporate Controller to lead and scale their accounting operations. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this position will oversee all accounting functions, ensure the integrity of financial reporting, and drive process improvement and automation. The ideal candidate is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a proven track record of managing a high-performing team in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own and lead all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements in compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Lead the consolidation of financial data from multiple domestic and international entities.
  • Manage revenue recognition procedures, ensuring accurate application of ASC 606 standards.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team on budget and forecast reporting, and analyze financial results against plan.
  • Oversee the treasury function and manage cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity.
Controls & Compliance
  • Lead and coordinate annual external audits and liaise with external auditors.
  • Oversee tax compliance matters, including federal, state, and international tax filings, working with external tax advisors as needed.
  • Ensure the accounting function is prepared for future regulatory requirements, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
  • Prepare financial reports and presentations for the leadership team, board of directors, and investors.
Systems & Process Automation
  • Drive continuous process improvements and identify opportunities for automation within the accounting and finance workflows.
  • Oversee the implementation, integration, and optimization of financial systems
  • Act as a leader of innovation, challenging the status quo to enhance accounting infrastructure and streamline processes.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
  • Inspire a culture of urgency, accountability, and excellence within the finance organization.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to cross-functional leaders, providing financial guidance and insights to support business initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Big 4 experience a plus
  • Strong experience in a tech, SaaS, or high-growth environment is preferred.
  • Experience leading financial audits, implementing internal controls, and ensuring tax compliance across multi-entity, international operations.
  • A proven track record of implementing scalable accounting processes and automating workflows.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
