Operations Support Specialist 1: $59,200 - $91,600

The Nuclear Materials Science Group (MST-16) is seeking an energetic, customer-focused individual for the position of Operations Support Specialist, to serve as an integral part of our organization. The successful candidate will provide operational support to MST-16 colleagues and integration across support organizations.

The selected candidate will be expected to operate with professionalism, dependability, and flexibility within a dynamic organization. Specific duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Support for meeting coverage including: shift operations, plan of the day/week, Operations Integration Center planning, shipping, etc.
  • Walkdown support for operations within Nuclear Facilities
  • Serve as a Designated Procurement Representative/Professional Buyer (DPR) and/or Subcontract Technical Representative (STR) and Administrative Subcontract Technical Representatives (ADSTR)
  • Provide support for MRP required activities
  • Provide logistical support for on-site interviews
Operations Support Specialist 2: $71,200 - $112,900
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Obtain and maintain Fissile Material Handling and Glovebox Operator requirements
  • Provide logistical support and coordination for nuclear material shipments
  • Provide support for sample coordination, planning, disposition, and consolidation

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; strong customer service and teaming skills.
  • Knowledge of the Laboratory's security and safety policies, practices, and procedures. Need to move to Desired
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively under pressure of deadlines, interruptions, and changing priorities, and the ability to follow multiple tasks to completion.
  • Knowledge of government procurement regulations, policies, and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in decision making, organizing and prioritizing tasks, and taking initiative.
  • The ability to obtain a Q-Clearance and HRP certification, which typically requires U.S. citizenship
Additional Job Requirements for Operations Support Specialist 2:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
  • The ability to perform hands-on nuclear work, when necessary - should be listed under "What you will do" - How would this be measured and how would an external have the opportunity to gain nuclear hands on work?
  • Demonstrated leadership of small projects across multiple stakeholders
  • High level of organization and experience in development of tools to track and report progress
Education Requirements Level 1: Position requires an Associates Degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience or , an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

Education Requirements Level 2: Position requires a Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Laboratory's security and safety policies, practices, and procedures.
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation):Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 35 pounds; Reading vision; Peripheral Vision, Depth Perception; Ability to speak; Ability to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 htz). Ability to sit, crawl, stand, walk, run, and climb; in addition to reaching overhead, horizontally, and down; Free from chronic wounds or chronic rashes which disrupt the integrity of the skin that would prevent safe entry into controlled areas; Ability to use stairways, fixed ladders, and ladders up to six feet. Must be physically able to work in demanding environments.

Work Environment: May be required to use of protective clothing, including safety glasses and radiological anti-contamination clothing.

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. This job is for an on-site position at Los Alamos National Laboratory, in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2A: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2A, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
