Schedule/Hours:
Full-time, evening shift, 8 or 10 hr. shifts or Mon-Fri with call. Majority of call is overnight (about 5-8) and 1 or 2 weekend call slots in an 8-week scheduling window. Call hours can vary. Assigned call may require arrival within 30 minutes.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient area for optimal patient care. Utilize aseptic surgical techniques to prepare materials, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Perform various procedures while maintaining knowledge of a variety of surgical techniques.
  • Ensure the environmental disinfection, safety, and efficiency of the operating room by setting up and returning equipment post-procedure.
  • Function as a Second Assistant as needed.
  • Notify appropriate staff of equipment and supply issues.
  • Transport patients and/or equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain specialty carts or items for sterility and completeness.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles and provide age-appropriate care.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) must be obtained within 6 months unless determined not required by department leader.

Education Required:

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Surgical Technology.

Experience Required:

  • No experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques.
  • Understanding of equipment used in the operating room.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Maintain annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to withstand a high-stress and fast-paced environment.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, 20 lbs. overhead, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform sliding transfers of 150 lbs. with assistance.
  • Required to wear masks, gloves, goggles, and gowns.
  • Exposed to various hazards including mechanical, electrical, chemical, and biological risks.
  • Functional sight and hearing are required.
