Job Title: Crewperson 6 - Site Maintenance (Equipment Operator)

Position Function: The Site Maintenance Crewperson is responsible for a wide variety of duties. Possess exceptional knowledge and demonstrate remarkable skills in the designated trade. Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  • Perform work in a safe manner and report any hazardous conditions
  • Assist in maintaining good public relations, being cognizant that a Crewperson represents both the Facilities Division and the Wichita Public Schools
  • Cooperate with other employees and maintain good public relations inside and outside of his/her assignment
  • Display willingness to be trained in all phases of the assignment and increase his/her skills, thus, qualifying for advancement
  • Possess a work ethic that is strongly oriented toward both efficiency and customer service
  • Maintain appropriate licenses and certifications including a valid Kansas driver's license at all times throughout employment
  • Possess superior knowledge of procedures, materials and equipment utilized in the designated area while displaying good workmanship, planning, and leadership
  • Support the organizational goals, the mission of the School Service Center and the district
  • Work cooperatively with others and assist in maintaining open lines of communication

  • Operation of all equipment and trucks is required
  • Assist in organizing back lot and shop inventory
  • Make decisions and offer solutions to the unit Supervisor concerning problems in the field
  • Delegate work as needed to employees in the absence of the Supervisor
  • Deliver and set up heavy equipment

Additional Duties: Assist with additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Equipment:Demonstrate the ability to use various equipment assigned to the job position as needed. This position may require the ability to use iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use. Use hand tools of the trade and related power equipment. Other tools that may be used may include, but are not limited to: heavy equipment (including backhoe, bobcat, bucket loader, cherry picker, dump trucks, forklift, grader, high loader, paver roller, skid loader, tractor and trencher), broom, cement mixer, chain hoist, concrete float (all sizes), concrete saw, core drill, hand tools, jack hammers (60, 90, 110), pallet jack, picks, power tools, sandblaster, shovel, sledge hammer, surveying equipment, tape measure, trucks, vans, wheel barrows and 1200 pound

Travel: Travel between schools and central offices is required.

  • Ability to perform all tasks and work the hours required

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position
Qualification Profile:
  • A High School Education or GED equivalent is preferred.
  • Maintain a valid Kansas driver's license at all times throughout employment
  • A CDL class A driver's license is required or must be obtained within 90 days of employment. Once the CDL class A license is obtained, the selected candidate must register with the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse and provide consent for USD 259 to run a pre-employment full query through the Clearinghouse website. If these steps have not been completed within 90 days of employment, the candidate will be terminated for non-compliance with Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Experience in concrete, asphalt, playground work, operation of skid steer, loader, grader, dump truck, forklift, back hoe, trencher and sandblasting is required. Light equipment and vehicle repairs are required.
  • Snow removal is mandatory.
