01/16/2026 The Norwich Free Academy is seeking a Medical Supervisor. The Medical Supervisor is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and oversight of health services at Norwich Free Academy. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and student-centered medical care in support of student health, safety, and well-being. The Medical Supervisor oversees medical staff, establishes and maintains health protocols, and collaborates with school leadership, families, and community partners to promote a safe, healthy learning environment aligned with NFA's mission. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and daily oversight of the NFA Medical Center.
- Supervise, support, and evaluate three LPN/RN staff and one Medical Center Administrative Assistant.
- Establish and implement nursing protocols, procedures, and best practices consistent with state regulations and school policy.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable requirements of the Connecticut Department of Public Health and the State Department of Education.
- Coordinate student health services, including medication administration, care plans, emergency response procedures, and chronic condition management.
- Collaborate and coordinate with the School-Based Health Center (SBHC) team to support integrated student health services and continuity of care.
- Serve as a clinical resource to school administrators, teachers, and support staff regarding student health concerns.
- Collaborate with families, healthcare providers, and community agencies regarding student medical needs, as appropriate.
- Oversee student health documentation, immunization compliance, and confidential medical recordkeeping.
- Participate in crisis response planning and emergency preparedness related to student health and safety.
- Support attendance, wellness, and reintegration planning for students with medical needs.
- Coordinate the medical aspects of the workers' compensation process, including injury assessment, documentation, communication with Human Resources, and coordination with treating providers, as appropriate.
- Provide training and guidance to staff related to health protocols, emergency procedures, and student safety.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Head of School or designee,
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of school-based nursing practice, student health services, emergency care, and care coordination protocols.
- Maintains a high level of professionalism, sound judgment, and composure when working with injured or ill students
- Possesses clear and effective communication skills to interact with students, families, coaches, school administrators, healthcare providers, and Human Resources.
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced school environment.
- Maintains strict confidentiality and compliance with NFA policies, HIPAA standards, and all applicable state and federal regulations.
- Shows dependability, flexibility, and responsiveness to changing schedules, emergencies, and school-based activities
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling while providing student care; occasional prolonged sitting for documentation and administrative tasks.
- Ability to lift, carry, and assist students or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs as required in emergency or treatment situations.
- Valid Connecticut Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree preferred.
- Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience in a school, clinical, or healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of school health regulations, public health standards, and student medical compliance requirements.
- Ability to supervise, evaluate, and support licensed nursing staff and administrative personnel.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience developing protocols, managing confidential medical records, and ensuring regulatory compliance
