Job Summary
As an RN Nurse Manager at Watertown Health Care Center, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating nursing services for residents along side the Director of Nursing. This includes overseeing nursing staff, ensuring high standards of care, regulatory compliance, and creating an environment that promotes patient well-being and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Oversight and Patient Care:
- Ensure that nursing care is delivered according to established standards, protocols, and policies.
- Develop and implement individual care plans for residents, tailored to meet their specific needs.
- Supervise and monitor the administration of medications, treatments, and patient assessments.
- Assess residents' physical, emotional, and mental conditions and provide timely interventions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (doctors, therapists, social workers) to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Manage, mentor, and support the nursing staff (Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to staff members.
- Promote continuing education and training for nursing staff to ensure up-to-date knowledge of healthcare best practices.
- Address employee performance issues and provide appropriate coaching and corrective actions as necessary.
- Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, as well as facility policies.
- Participate in accreditation processes, audits, and inspections.
- Monitor and maintain high standards of care, safety, and sanitation within the facility.
- Review and ensure appropriate documentation of patient care, treatment, and medication administration.
- Investigate and respond to patient or family complaints or grievances related to nursing care.
- Assist in budget preparation and resource allocation for nursing services.
- Maintain inventory of nursing supplies and equipment.
- Ensure the proper handling and storage of medications.
- Document and report incidents, accidents, and any changes in patient conditions in a timely manner.
- Participate in meetings, case conferences, and staff meetings to facilitate communication and collaboration across departments.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and the nursing team, ensuring clear communication.
- Provide education and emotional support to residents and their families regarding health issues and care plans.
- Support residents' quality of life by addressing concerns, promoting dignity, and encouraging social interaction.
- Be prepared to act as a leader in emergency situations, providing clear guidance to staff and coordinating resident care during crises (e.g., falls, medical emergencies, disasters).
- Licensure:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of employment.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in long-term care or geriatric nursing.
- Skills:
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of nursing practice standards, regulations, and long-term care operations.
- Ability to manage tasks, staffing, and resources efficiently.
- Ability to manage time effeciently.
- May require working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Exposure to bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and other environmental hazards common in healthcare settings.
- Typically works in a long-term care facility (nursing home, assisted living facility, rehabilitation center).
- Requires frequent interaction with healthcare staff, residents, and families.
In this role, the Nurse Manager in long-term care is a critical figure in ensuring high-quality care, improving patient outcomes, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting the well-being of both residents and nursing staff.
