Undergraduate Academic Affairs (UAA) shapes, advances and stewards a world-class undergraduate academic experience for students at the University of Washington. Staff, faculty and students in UAA deepen and enrich the learning experience for all undergraduates, recognizing and supporting the unique learning path of each individual student and the commitment of each academic program to excellence in learning and teaching.

Within UAA, UAA Advising provides academic planning services and support for students, including helping them explore academic opportunities and working with them to connect their personal strengths and interests with curricular (including co- and extra-curricular) experiences.? UAA Advising works primarily with students who are exploring and undecided or preparing for entrance into a major.? UAA Advising is a primary campus contact for prospective transfer students, working closely with the community and technical colleges in Washington State. UAA Advising is the UW's centralized advising office, providing leadership and support to advisers, departments, and student service units around the institution in the areas of academic advising practice and policy.

UAA Advising maintains the Adviser Information File which is a website that houses advising policy interpretation as well as notes of historical interest regarding the practice of advising at UW.

Undergraduate Academic Affairs has an outstanding opportunity for temporary Program Coordinator to build a student database to organize and track undergraduate student engagement.

This role will be responsible for the creation of an internal database that will be used to store quantitative and qualitative student data collected by UAA Advising. This role will also be tasked with creating data queries to pull student lists for advising's quarterly outreach strategy. We aim to build a diverse pool of experienced candidates from a range of academic and professional backgrounds. The right candidate will join a collaborative, purposeful team of professionals excited to support advising across UW's campus.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of UAA Advising, the program coordinator will be responsible for the following:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conceptualize, and build advising database - 50%

  • With support from the AssociateDirector, analyze the currentdata needsandunderstand the tiesand limitations withinexisting databases (UW SDB, Check-In data, etc.)

  • Createa longitudinaldatabase that stores data collected inadvisingappointments, academic record data, survey data and more.

  • Developasystem for future entries into thedatabase.

Design & Analyze - 30%

  • In collaboration with AssociateDirector,build SQL queries for common data pulls.

  • Build functional interface to quickly run custom reports and summaries.

  • Support internalanalysis ofadvisingdata sets.

Documentation and Training - 20%

  • Participate in the creation of supporting documentation and training materials forthe continued maintenance of the advising database.

  • Documentthe assumptions used and data relied on in the creation of the advising database.

  • Create training foradvisingstaff onhow to use database.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in building databases.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with SQL, MicrosoftAccessand/or other data management tools.

  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including faculty, academic professionals, and technology professionals.

  • Capacity to manage demanding workflow and competing deadlines.

  • Ability toinitiateand complete projects independently and within deadlines.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a diverse staff population and a wide range of personalities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree with two years' experience indatabase management.

  • Working toward aMaster'sDegreeorCertificateinInformation. Management,Data Science, Public Administration orrelated fieldand two years of professional experience in information managementand database design.

  • Interest indata solutions to support student success. ?

  • Familiarity with the UW Student Database System (SDB).
