Summary
We are looking for a product engineer (sustaining) to support our medical x-ray products. The ideal candidate has a strong hands-on skill set with a broad range of manufacturing processes, assembly methods, tooling/fixtures, functional design, cost reduction skills, statistical analysis for data driven decisions, and engineering documentation practices with an overarching drive to solve Customer (field), Production (factory), and R&D (future) issues using good engineering and manufacturing principles and practices. You will expand your hands-on experience with multiple manufacturing and assembly methods. You will have exposure to advanced medical x-ray imaging components, their processing and test equipment, and the manufacturing and design challenges associated with managing thermal loads in high voltage electro-mechanical systems within the Medical Device Industry.

This role is product support engineer responsible for the quality, performance, life, and product improvements for an assigned product family within our medical x-ray product portfolio. You will work directly with production, other product engineering, R&D engineering, maintenance, and quality engineering both at our Salt Lake and international sites. Job Description

What you will do:

• Learn X-Ray safety procedures, the regulations and good manufacturing practice requirements of our business

• Learn essential processing flow, equipment, and tests performed on the product you will be assigned to support

• Using good engineering practice, methods, and tools to identify and drive to resolution a wide range of product challenges including but not limited to customer issues and complaints, production line improvement for product flow, fixtures and tools, work instructions, defect mapping and resolution, process refinement, continuous improvement, and LEAN implementation projects for your assigned product family

• Cross train with other manufacturing and product engineers on product portfolio, common failure modes, support management and resolution of non-conformities, and in every way possible - solve daily customer, production, and R&D challenges to support the product line

• Support the development and implementation of cost reduction initiatives such as alternative supply, design for cost out, value stream mapping, and efficiency projects

• Document the improvements with approved systems and documentation practices

What you will bring:

• Extensive hands-on experience with product support in a continuing engineering or manufacturing/process engineering role

• Demonstrated mastery of data driven decision making, data collection methods, application of the scientific method, and quality and continuous engineering tools

• Experience with common manufacturing processes and assembly methods (machining, forming, bending, casting, molding, fastening methods, welding, brazing, 3D printing, etc.)

• Hands-on experience in functional testing and troubleshooting thermo-mechanical and electro-mechanical devices (heat exchangers, mechanical assemblies, electro-magnetic components, x-ray generators, etc.)

• Strong desire to learn and engage in the daily engineering and production activities

• proficiency with Office products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)

Additional Advantageous Skills:

• Advanced lean manufacturing certifications and Factory physics - how to model and verify a production process/cell (capacity modeling)

• Hands-on experience with high voltage test equipment, data collection methods, fixturing/tooling for production processes with high voltage connections, and automated scripts and user interfaces.

• Experience working with electro-mechanical systems - preferably x-ray, high voltage equipment, or medical or industrial imaging equipment

• Experience with scripting, preferably C++, PLC coding, Python and/or ImageJ and/or Matlab

• Statistics experience for refining experimental data, AI experience to improve manufacturing processes

• SAP and MES system utilization

Education/Experience:

- BS, MS, or PhD in a relevant engineering field such as Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics

- 3+ years industry experience.

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

• Light work that will occasionally require employee to lift/move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift more than 25 lbs. to greater than 35lbs. (all weights over this would be expected to use lift support devices)

• Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving heavy equipment and/or supplies occasionally.

• Reaching above and below the shoulder occasionally.

• Above-average agility and dexterity with the ability to hold, grasp and manipulate small parts and use hand and power tools occasionally.

• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and handle physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, stretching, reaching, repetitive motion, or similar activities.

• Work environments includes: occasionally include exposure to chemicals, electrical current, proximity to moving mechanical parts, repetitive hand motion, open flame, working from heights, cold environment, hot environment, uneven surface, fumes.
