JOB TITLE: Athletic & Activities Director

REPORTS TO: Principal

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Athletic & Activities Director provides leadership, supervision, and oversight for all aspects of high school athletics and student activities. This certified administrative position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring extracurricular programming that fosters student engagement, belonging, leadership, and equitable participation. The Director exercises significant independent judgment related to school operations and ensures alignment with district goals, CHSAA regulations, and safety expectations. As well as aligns athletics with feeder schools in coordination with the school level athletic director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. STUDENT-CENTERED PROGRAM LEADERSHIP
  • Lead a comprehensive athletics and activities program focused on expanding student opportunities and increasing participation across all student groups.
  • Implement systems to gather student voice and assess extracurricular interests to guide program expansion.
  • Promote student leadership, sportsmanship, and positive school culture.
  • Collaborate with families, staff, and community partners to remove barriers to participation and ensure equitable access.
II. PROGRAM DESIGN, SCHEDULING, AND OPERATIONS
  • Schedule all athletic events, competitions, practices, and student activities, including dances, assemblies, and co-curricular events.
  • Oversee facility scheduling and ensure fair and efficient use of athletic spaces.
  • Coordinate officials, scorekeepers, timekeepers, and event supervision.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate all coaching staff and activity sponsors.
  • Manage program budgets, equipment purchasing, and inventory.
  • Coordinate transportation for athletics and activities.
  • Budget and Resource Management
    • Prepare, monitor, and manage high school athletic budgets, including equipment, uniforms, officials, and travel.
    • Ensure accountability for gate receipts, fundraising, and other revenue sources.
    • Advocate for athletic program needs in district budget processes.

III. COMPLIANCE, SAFETY, AND SCHOOL CULTURE
  • Ensure compliance with CHSAA and district policies governing athletics and activities.
  • Lead student supervision and behavior expectations at events.
  • Support school safety efforts in collaboration with district personnel and community safety partners.
  • Assist with incident documentation, emergency response drills, and investigations as assigned.

    IV. DATA MONITORING, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
  • Develop and implement metrics to evaluate program effectiveness, including participation rates, equity of access, and student satisfaction.
  • Monitor academic eligibility and collaborate with staff to support student success.
  • Conduct annual reviews of all athletic and activity programs and provide recommendations to school and district leadership.
  • Utilize data to identify programming gaps and propose new opportunities aligned with student needs.
  • Work closely with the Elementary-Middle School Athletics to align feeder programs with high school athletics.
  • Collaborate with district leadership on strategic planning, facilities, and equity initiatives for athletics.
  • Support districtwide initiatives related to wellness, student engagement, and extracurricular programming.
V. COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION
  • Serve as liaison among coaches, sponsors, students, families, CHSAA, district personnel, and community partners.
  • Promote and publicize events to increase awareness and engagement.
  • Participate in school leadership teams and represent the district at league and CHSAA meetings.
VI. OTHER DUTIES
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & LICENSURE
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid Colorado Principal or Administrator License required (or ability to obtain).
  • CPR/First Aid required.
Preferred
  • CHSAA certification.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of three years of teaching, coaching, or school-based leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience with athletics, activities, student supervision, or program management preferred.
  • Spanish bilingual skills desirable.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises coaching staff, activity sponsors, event workers, and contracted officials.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work occurs in school buildings and athletic facilities with frequent evening and weekend duties.
  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
