Position Title: Finance and Accounting Officer

Organization: C.A.R.E. Wellness Center & Services

Location: Remote/Olympia, Washington, US

Commitment: 20+ hours/week

C.A.R.E. Wellness Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity with a mission of providing a safe farm stay, holistic retreat, and wellness programs for BIPOC community and allies for equality. Its programs are focused on persons of color and works with vulnerable populations such as BIPOC with justice-involvement, foster youth, and those suffering mental health challenges. The person in this role must be sensitive to these populations and center their duties on wellness.

Our mission is to provide a safe farm stay, holistic retreat, and wellness programs for black, indigenous, people of color and allies, to recover from Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome via Spirituality, AgroTourism, and Racial Justice.

Our Vision is Connectivity: to Nature; to God; and to Self. Or goal of acquiring farmland is to establish a safe spiritual retreat for people of color to escape constant trauma and begin repairing their fractured foundation and realize self-actualization. Our programs are a research community project with a goal of empowering others to heal from PTSS.

There is a need for an experienced Finance & Accounting Offer to help the Founder/CEO with planning, mapping, and organizing financial controls, Procedures, and our use of WaveApps. The Founder/CEO is a woman of color, pansexual, and person with disabilities fully committed to the growth of both C.A.R.E. Wellness Center (nonprofit) and C.A.R.E. Family Services, LLC (for-profit), also doing direct services for children and youth. We highly encourage an ethical, organized, and ambitious student or experienced accountant to help support the foundation of this new and unique nonprofit. Must be knowledgeable about U.S. federal and Washington state financial and nonprofit guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the nonprofit wellness center.
    • Record all financial transactions, including donations, grants, and operational expenses.
  2. Budget Assistance:
    • Collaborate with the center's management to assist in the development and monitoring of the annual budget.
    • Provide support in budget analysis and variance reporting.
  3. Grant Financial Management:
    • Work closely with the grant management team to ensure proper financial reporting for grants.
    • Assist in tracking grant expenses and ensuring compliance with grantor requirements.
  4. Financial Reporting:
    • Generate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders as needed.
    • Assist in the preparation of financial statements for board meetings and grant reporting.
  5. Audit Support:
    • Collaborate with external auditors during the annual audit process.
    • Prepare and organize financial documents for audit review.
  6. Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and nonprofit accounting standards.
    • Stay informed about changes in accounting standards that may impact the organization.
  7. Financial Planning:
    • Contribute to the development of financial strategies to support the long-term sustainability of the wellness center.
    • Provide insights and recommendations for financial decision-making.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Background in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Proficient in financial record-keeping and accounting software.
  • Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and regulations is a plus.
