Job Summary

The School Nurse supports the health, wellness, and safety of all students and staff by providing high-quality medical care, managing health records, and promoting healthy practices. In a Catholic school setting, the nurse also serves as a compassionate caregiver who upholds the dignity of every student and reflects the values of the Church.

Job Responsibilities

Health Services

  • Provide first aid, emergency care, and daily health services to students and staff
  • Administer medications and manage treatment plans for students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies)
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date student health records and immunization documentation
  • Monitor communicable diseases and report as required by local health authorities
  • Develop and implement health care plans for students with special medical needs
Health Education & Promotion
  • Educate students, staff, and parents on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention
  • Collaborate with faculty on health-related topics and initiatives (e.g., wellness programs, mental health awareness)
  • Serve as a health resource to the school community
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with state and diocesan health policies and regulations
  • Participate in school emergency preparedness planning and drills
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure proper sanitation procedures are followed
  • Assist in identifying and reporting child abuse or neglect as a mandated reporter
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Experience in a school or pediatric healthcare setting
  • Practicing Catholic or supportive of the mission and values of Catholic education
