Team Description:
The Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team plays a crucial role in actualizing our AI vision at Capital One. Collaborating closely with various partners, we advance AI science and engineering, developing proprietary solutions that are vital to our operations and beneficial to millions. Our AI models empower all teams to responsibly enhance their products for maximum impact.
In this role, you will:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, research scientists, product managers, and technical program managers to deliver impactful AI-driven products.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain AI software components covering areas such as foundation model training and large language model inference.
- Utilize a variety of Open Source and SaaS AI technologies, such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch.
- Innovate on large language model optimization methods to enhance the performance of large-scale AI systems.
- Contribute to the long-term technical vision and roadmap for foundational AI systems at Capital One.
The Ideal Candidate:

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with at least 8 years of experience in AI/ML algorithm development or a Master's degree with at least 6 years of experience.
- 8 years of programming experience in Python, Go, Scala, or Java.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8 years of experience deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms (like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure).
- Experience in architecting and supporting complex AI systems.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams and influence stakeholders up to the VP level.
- Experience in developing AI algorithms or technologies (such as LLM Inference, Similarity Search, and Guardrails).
- Expertise in optimizing AI training and inference software for performance.
- Strong communication skills with a talent for explaining complex concepts.
