Structural Lead Engineer

Westwood Professional Services, Inc is seeking a Structural Lead Engineer responsible for overseeing the design, analysis, and implementation of structural engineering projects. This role involves leading a team of engineers and collaborating with other disciplines to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the structural engineering team focused on solar energy projects, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to engineers and designers.
  • Accountable to project deliverable quality
  • Provide guidance and review of proposal efforts and invoicing for the structural scope of solar energy projects.
  • Implement engineering processes, training, and best practices tailored to the unique challenges of solar energy projects, including innovative design solutions for PV racking system and ancillary structure foundations.
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to develop integrated solutions.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
  • Communicate project status and technical information to clients and stakeholders.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure quality and adherence to design specifications.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in structural engineering, with 1-2 years in a managerial or leadership role, specifically in the solar energy sector.
  • Proven experience in managing complex engineering projects related to solar energy, including knowledge of solar array design, racking systems, and typical subgrade challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of shallow and deep foundation systems, soil structure interaction, construction techniques, and remediation techniques for shallow and deep foundations on large scale engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design software and tools relevant to solar energy projects. Software such as LPile, Risa 3D, STAAD Pro, Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Robot, FEA modeling techniques
  • Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318, NDS
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Experience
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in structural engineering, with 2-3 years in a managerial or leadership role, specifically in the solar energy sector.
  • A proven ability to provide innovative solutions to improve efficiency of deliverables, motivate and engage staff.


Compensation Range Minimum

USD $100,000.00/Yr.

Compensation Range Maximum

USD $125,000.00/Yr.
