About the Role:

As a Principal Engineer of Confluent's Security Platform, you will work closely with the team and other key stakeholders across the company to design, architect and build secure, multi-cloud, external and internal security controls that keep our customer's data safe as well as enable new business opportunities across Confluent Cloud (including Kafka, Flink, Connect and more).

As a senior technical leader, you think strategically and help drive end-to-end technical delivery from great customer experience to amazing operations. You're not confined to the status quo and you leverage your expertise in cloud-native, high-scale distributed systems to help take our platform to the next level. You're an owner who understands the high operational bar for security systems, and you make sure all the details (availability, reliability, performance, monitoring, emergency response, capacity planning, disaster recovery) have been thought about. If you're passionate about security and love thinking about how to enable customers and want to have a big influence on overall platform architecture, you'll fit right in.

What You Will Do:

  • Be part of driving the overall technical charter for the Security Platform -- including external and internal and security systems and cloud infrastructure

  • Work closely with product and engineering management to build and drive the overall roadmap for Confluent's Security Platform to enable new business opportunities

  • Design and deliver high impact, security controls that protect Confluent and its customers across all cloud providers and regions we operate in

  • Be as a strong technical leader and representative for the Security Platform across the company

  • Lead and mentor the team on all aspects of product definition, architectural design, and delivery

  • Be an advisor to other Confluent teams on how to secure their customer's data and applications

What You Will Bring:

  • 15+ years of experience in delivering scalable software solutions

  • Proven track record of leading the delivery of large-scale, highly available, high throughput, low latency systems

  • Deep expertise in cloud-based security and networking

  • Deep hands-on expertise in high-scale distributed systems engineering

  • Expertise in large-scale operations & best practices

  • Expertise in multiple Programming Languages (Java, Go, Python)

  • Experience in driving operational excellence for large, production services

  • Track record of providing technical mentoring and leadership

  • Track record of working collaboratively across teams and roles, including but not limited to product management, UX, and other engineering teams and leaders
