Summary of Duties
This position is responsible for supporting and assisting Service Planning efforts in route analysis and planning and operations forecasting. This includes reviewing route proposals, gathering supporting data, compiling data, and creating reports.
Essential Functions:
- Research, collect, and analyze data related to ridership demand, on-time performance, fleet utilization, etc.
- Compile complex datasets related to capacity, frequency, train miles, etc.
- Coordinate with stakeholders throughout Amtrak to consolidate feedback on service proposals.
- Organize and perform quality control reviews of existing Amtrak data sources to build into Service Planning's development of key deliverables.
- Assist in building service capacity and financial performance forecasts for expansions.
- Ensure data integrity, e.g., references to appropriate data elements, etc.
- Develop recommendations.
- Communicate recommendations effectively.
- Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
- Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Transportation/Urban Planning, Economics, Business, Operations Management, Logistics, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
- Must have at least 2 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a junior status at minimum.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
- Familiarity with or previous work experience in the transportation industry.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Experience with one or more of the following: analytical programming languages, SQL, R, Python, advanced Excel.
PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The hourly range is $18.00 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.

If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.
In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for providers of public transportation (Title 6 U.S.C. §1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
