Job Summary
The Research Financial Analyst (RFA) is responsible for providing analytical and financial support in contract and grant administration including post-award fund management and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors for the Pulmonary Division. The RFA will perform activities associated with forecasting, planning and managing of research portfolios by performing the following: administering and monitoring contract and grant awards, including compliance with regulations, terms and conditions; financial management and reporting; and subcontract administration. The RFA serves as the faculty's single point of contact for research financial issues and ensures that faculty are provided with high quality, efficient, responsive, and responsible post-award research administration services.
NOTE: This is a flexible (hybrid) role. Onsite day(s) TBD.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $84,400 - $126,700 (Annual Rate).

Department Description
The Department of Medicine (DOM), the largest department in the School of Medicine, has close to 600 full-time faculty leading top-notch research, clinical, and education programs. The Department has a decentralized organizational structure across four sites (Parnassus, ZSFG, VAMC and Mt. Zion) and 38 divisions. Authority and accountability for the Department rests with the Department Chair who heads the Parnassus and Mt. Zion sites, and also directs the Vice Chairs at the ZSFG and VAMC sites.
The Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine Division has a long history of providing outstanding clinical care, performing innovative research and training academic scientists and physicians. We currently have active, well-funded clinical, translational, and basic research programs in lung development, international lung health, pulmonary immunology, genetics of pulmonary and allergic diseases, lung transplantation, microbial pathogenesis, airway diseases, acute lung injury, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary malignancies, and pulmonary health disparities. Our large, NIH training grant has been continuously funded since 1966. Nearly a quarter of all academic pulmonologists in the United States have trained at UCSF. This combined unit includes: 7 outpatient clinics, 4 inpatient services, a pulmonary function diagnostic center, 15 independent wet labs, 4 independent research service cores, 6 independent clinical research units, one specialty destination program, and the Nina Ireland Program in Lung Health focusing on philanthropic activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and 3+ years of progressively responsible related experience and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
- Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
- Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
- Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques
- Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsors' guidelines.
- Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
- Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
