Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist - Release of Information

Professional Type: Clerical
Contract Type: Long-Term (12 Weeks, Temp-to-Hire)
Shift: Day | 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM | 40 hours/week
Pay Rate: $19.00/hr
Location: Local Candidates Only

Position Overview

The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist is responsible for processing requests for medical records and itemized bills efficiently and accurately while maintaining strict compliance with Federal and State regulations regarding the release of information (ROI). The specialist ensures exceptional customer service, attention to detail, and confidentiality in all aspects of record handling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process all requests for medical records and itemized bills in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Ensure compliance with HIP nd all applicable Federal and State regulations governing release of information.
  • Communicate with patients, providers, and third parties to verify and fulfill record requests.
  • Maintain detailed logs and documentation for all record releases.
  • Utilize EPIC or other Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems to retrieve and manage patient data.
  • Collaborate with other HIM and administrative staff to support departmental operations.
  • Deliver a high level of customer service and professionalism in all communications.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience:
    • 2-3 years of clerical experience in a healthcare or HIM department.
    • Prior experience in a medical office or health information environment preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with EPIC or other EMR systems.
  • Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of release of information regulations (Federal and State).
    • Solid grasp of medical terminology.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
