The Opportunity
As an HVAC Mechanical Engineer (EIT) at SHP, you'll play an important role in shaping building systems that serve our education, civic, and workplace clients. You'll design mechanical and HVAC components under the guidance of experienced engineering leads, contribute to drawings and models, and grow your technical foundation in a collaborative environment.
You'll work closely with architects, interior designers, and consultants to support integrated project delivery. This role is ideal for early-career engineers who are eager to learn, contribute, and develop toward licensure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design HVAC and mechanical system components for renovation and new construction projects
- Prepare drawings, models, and calculations using Revit and related engineering tools
- Support coordination with architects, interior designers, and engineering consultants
- Participate in site visits, field verification, and construction-phase support
- Produce documentation that meets code requirements and project standards
- Contribute to project schedules, deliverables, and quality control processes
Key Requirements
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field (or technical degree with related A/E/C experience)
- On a path toward EIT/PE licensure (preferred but not required)
Skills & Experience
- Basic Revit proficiency
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
- Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to grow into increasing technical responsibility
Location & Travel Expectations
This role is based in one of our physical office locations-Cincinnati, OH; Columbus, OH; or Greensboro, NC-and is ideal for candidates who thrive in a highly collaborative, in person environment. Being onsite allows for deeper day to day engagement with peers and project teams, faster decision making, and organic moments of creativity and mentorship that emerge through shared space.
At the same time, many of our most meaningful opportunities-client-facing and internal-happen beyond the walls of the office. Travel is a key part of how we build relationships, gather insight from the people we design for, and bring our ideas to life alongside clients and partners. Whether it's participating in discovery sessions, facilitating workshops, or gaining on the ground understanding of a project's context, travel enables us to show up where it matters.
Candidates for this role should be willing and able to travel as needed, often with short notice, to support firmwide priorities, strengthen client connections, and grow their impact across markets. We view this flexibility as a way to expand visibility, build trust, and access the kind of hands-on experiences that fuel career growth.
SHP is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
