MD Anderson is seeking an Outpatient Clinical Nurse for its League City Radiation Oncology clinic.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and possess at least two years of clinical nursing experience. Candidates with experience in an outpatient oncology clinic and an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) are preferred.

Shift: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm must be able to work this shift at least 1 day a week & 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Summary:

The Clinical Nurse in Surgery at League City is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based patient care across the continuum. This role supports optimal patient outcomes through direct care, coordination, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, while ensuring efficient use of resources.

Transformational Leadership

Leads patients, families, and colleagues to anticipate and meet future care needs.

Organizes and prioritizes the work of the patient care team, including:

Administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy agents

IV fluid and antibiotic therapy

Pump connects/disconnects

Rapid response to infusion reactions and emergencies

IV insertions and vascular access management

Ensures continuity of care through patient education and coordination of services.

Practices autonomously within the scope of professional nursing standards.

Structural Empowerment

Actively participates in shared decision-making at the unit level.

Identifies barriers to care and contributes to effective solutions.

Builds strong partnerships across departments to support patient outcomes.

Exemplary Professional Practice

Trains, mentors, and supports team members to ensure optimal care and resource utilization.

Manages and delivers patient care in assigned areas.

Functions effectively in roles such as charge nurse, preceptor, clinical coach, and protocol manager.

Demonstrates clinical competency in procedures, medication administration, and emergency response.

Assesses patient needs and collaborates with physicians and care teams to develop and evaluate care plans.

Advocates for patients and upholds their rights throughout the care process.

Provides coverage for Surgical Oncology and Infusion patients as needed.

Integrates research findings and evidence-based practices into daily care.

Participates in or leads practice improvement and care redesign initiatives.

Applies safety and quality standards in all aspects of care delivery.

EDUCATION

Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200).

Preferred: Oncology Nurse Certification (OCN).

EXPERIENCE

Required: None.

Preferred: Two years of clinical nursing experience, preferably experience in an outpatient oncology clinic setting.

All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
