Director of Secondary Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment
Under the general direction of the Chief Academic Officer, the Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment leads the development, organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of 6-12 instructional programs. The Director supervises assigned staff in core content areas, world language, visual and performing arts, and physical education and is responsible for the procurement and implementation of 6-12 curriculum, instructional materials, and professional development. The Director also supervises assigned staff responsible for Sexuality, Health, and Responsibility Education (SHARE), Library Services, Extended Studies, Distance Education, and 6-12 Assessment. This person works collaboratively with school principals and teachers to provide support for curriculum and instruction. The Director performs other related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
. Program Leadership
- Implements strategic plan goals, objectives, and initiatives, and monitors and reports progress to the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders as required.
- Ensure alignment between curriculum, assessments, and instructional strategies to improve student outcomes.
- Oversees approval of new courses and maintenance; oversees alternate means of credit; oversees Master Course File approvals; oversees Course of Study development and practice.
- Organizes monthly Department Leader meetings by secondary content areas including English Language Arts, mathematics, Science, Social Studies, fine arts, physical education, and World Language.
- Organizes monthly Curriculum Assistant Principal meetings at the high school level and curriculum and instruction meetings at the middle school level.
- Provides support for the Cognia Accreditation process for district high schools, and other schools in the region, including private and charter. Collaborates with the State Commissioner to provide training for schools participating in the accreditation process. Serves on the State Advisory Committee to remain informed of updates and changes to accreditation standards.
- Collaborates and coordinates with other district departments in the coordination and implementation of professional learning opportunities for staff and administrators.
- Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned personnel as per established policy, procedure, and law.
- Ensures that assigned staff is trained and aware of emergency procedures.
- Collaborates and coordinates with other district departments toward alignment of standards, curriculum, instruction, assessment, grading and reporting practices within context of the District Teaching and Learning Framework.
- Collaborates with other district departments in addressing common curricular and instructional issues and initiatives.
- Provides basic technical support to schools with regard to online curricular programs.
- Serves as the District liaison to the Nevada Department of Education, local institutions in the Nevada System of Higher Education, and other official state entities in matters of curriculum & instruction.
- Utilize data-driven decision-making to assess program effectiveness, monitor student progress, and make recommendations for instructional improvement.
- Participates in annual curriculum monitoring of all charter schools.
- Monitors text material selection and inventory within budget guidelines; monitors supplemental text selection through the Contract Review process.
- Facilitates the development of grant applications, and implementation and monitoring of awarded grants.
- Ensures compliance with applicable legislative mandates, policies and laws.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
- Education: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education, administration or a related field;
- Three (3) or more years of recent, successful site or central office-based administrative experience preferred.

Annual salary: Starting at $104,862.
Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.
