Overview
We are seeking a skilled Physician Assistant to support cardiothoracic surgical services on a locum basis. You will be integral in delivering high-quality care, managing post-operative patients, and collaborating with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams. This position is ideal for providers seeking flexible scheduling, comprehensive benefits, and the chance to work at top-tier facilities in Toledo. Required Skills
  • Valid Physician Assistant License in Ohio
  • Prior experience in surgery, preferably cardiothoracic or acute care settings
  • Proficiency in suturing, physical exams, diagnosing and treating illnesses, ordering and interpreting tests, and prescribing medications
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently within a team environment
  • Familiarity with EMR systems, specifically EPIC, for accurate documentation
  • Ability to manage a patient load averaging 12 per day in a fast-paced environment
Nice to Have Skills
  • Experience working autonomously in a hospital or surgical setting
  • Certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Prior experience with trauma Level 1 facilities
  • Ability to adapt to multiple hospital locations and varied workflows
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience in surgical or critical care environments
  • Prior cardiothoracic or trauma care experience highly desirable
Other Requirements
  • Availability to work 10 days per month, primarily weekdays (8:00 am to 4:00 pm), with rotating call duties (1:3 ratio)
  • Credentialing timeframe of approximately 60-90 days, with efforts to expedite the process
  • Willingness to cover multiple facilities including Mercy St. Vincent, Mercy St. Anne, Mercy St. Charles, and Mercy Perrysburg
  • Travel and licensure reimbursement, including hotel, flight, and rental car, as applicable
