As an employee assistance counselor, you will support FBI employees, task force officers, and their families by offering a range of supportive services, including counseling, crisis response, and assessment. Your role will involve providing interventions for stress, marital and family problems, financial issues, and more using advanced practices in case and healthcare management, with a focus on confidentiality and customer service. You will also apply your background in psychology and communication to guide your support to individuals through various challenges. Please see instructions on the site for attaching documents. SALARY LEVEL Pay level for this position: GS 12-13: $75,706.00-$117,034.00 Salary shown is the base salary for the grade levels. Salary is also commensurate with professional experience. MAJOR DUTIES Provide supportive counseling for employees, family members, and task force officers experiencing a wide range of problems characterized by feelings of distress, impaired work performance, health, finances, and/or social well-being issues. Help employees and supervisors resolve work-related problems and monitor employees' progress to assist in long-term recovery efforts. Provide internal and external referrals to clients. Develop and present a variety of psycho-educational topics to a nonclinical audience. Respond to national and local crisis events. Provide after-hours and on-call support as needed. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one year of specialized experience (SE) equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows: Experience interpreting federal laws, regulations, and directives that govern the operations of employee assistance counseling programs. Experience providing short-term interventions, resources, and referral assistance to federal employees and their families seeking help with challenges related to mental health, substance abuse, emotional issues, gambling, marital concerns, family relations, financial concerns, work-related issues, stress, grief/loss, or other personal problems. Experience providing educational material appropriate to the audience's level and interests and experience leading lectures, training seminars, and discussion groups. GS-13: Applicant must possess at least one year of specialized experience (SE) equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. SE is defined as follows: In addition to the above: Experience providing, diagnosing, and treating a variety of psychological illnesses and personality disorders, dual diagnoses, and maladaptive behaviors. Experience providing educational material to the level and interests of the audience and ability to communicate such material effectively in forums such as lectures, training seminars, and discussion groups. Experience with consulting and advising management and health care professionals on complex employee performance and behavioral concerns and sensitive issues such as psychological, physiological, and sociological aspects of alcoholism and other addictions and with the prevailing modes of treatment and rehabilitation. KEY REQUIREMENTS Must be a U.S. citizen. Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance. Must meet the FBI's Employment Eligibility requirements. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENTIAL REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION Candidates must have a bachelor's or higher from a U.S.-accredited college or university and at least 24 college level semester hours in one or more related disciplines. OR Four years of full-time experience working that demonstrates applied knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. All degrees must be verified by submitting college transcripts. CERTIFICATIONS Candidates must have a current state clinical mental health independent practice license in psychology, social work, psychiatrist, professional counseling, or a clinical independent practice license from a closely allied mental health field with demonstrated substance abuse experience.
