Position Overview:
As a Clinic Assistant at OrthoArkansas, you'll be at the heart of our patient care experience. You'll greet and guide patients, assist providers during appointments, and ensure clinic operations run smoothly. From managing patient information to supporting physicians in advanced procedures, your role is critical in delivering top-tier care and keeping things running efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Interaction and Support:
- Be the friendly face that welcomes patients into the clinic.
- Escort patients to exam rooms and handle intake tasks such as recording height, weight, vital signs, gathering medical history, medication reconciliation and confirming the purpose of their visit.
- Prepare patients for X-Ray, examinations and treatments.
- Educate patients about their treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care so they leave feeling informed and confident.
- Promptly return patient calls and provide clear, accurate information about services and procedures.
- Assist with scheduling diagnostic tests, procedures, and appointments to ensure smooth coordination between patients, providers, and facilities.
- Enter provider orders for X-Ray, diagnostic tests, DME, therapy, and surgeries into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system with precision.
- Manage medication prescriptions and refills, sending them to pharmacies and processing refills as needed.
3. Clinical Duties:
- Assist healthcare providers during examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Prepare, sterilize, and maintain medical instruments and equipment to ensure a safe, sterile environment.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure strict compliance with infection control and safety guidelines.
- Ensure exam rooms and clinical areas are stocked, organized, and spotless to maintain a clean and efficient environment.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Facilitate effective communication and coordination between patients, physicians, and clinical staff to ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Administrative and Scheduling Tasks:
- Complete and manage disability or medical forms for patients.
- Prepare patient charts for the next day appointments to support efficient patient care.
- Assist with scheduling surgeries and facilitated communication between patients and facilities.
- Clinical Duties:
- Perform wound care, dressing changes, and draw injection medications while preparing injection sites.
- Removal of staples, sutures, stitches.
- Clinic Maintenance:
- Cover the triage (ER) phone line when needed.

- Cross Departmental Collaboration:
- Step in where needed and lend your skills to various departments, ensuring seamless clinic operations. Flexibility is key Duties will be assigned as needed by management.
- Administrative and Scheduling Tasks:
- Be a team player and take part in specialized groups such as the Inclement Weather Team, Workflow Improvement Team, or the New Hire Training Team.
- Lead quality assurance efforts to maintain compliance with healthcare standards and clinic protocols.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives and optimize clinic workflows, contributing to enhanced patient care and operational efficiency.
- Stay ahead of the curve by engaging in ongoing education and professional development focused on orthopedic care advancements.
- Clinical Support:
- Be proficient in DME (Durable Medical Equipment), including casting, splinting, and distributing DME to patients with expert care.
- Safely and skillfully remove orthopedic devices like braces and casts.
- Assist with advanced in-office orthopedic procedures, including hand procedures, ensuring top-tier patient support.
- Clinic Operations & Maintenance:
- Manage clinic inventory, keeping supplies stocked and organized to ensure the clinic runs like a well-oiled machine.
- Monitor supply orders and anticipate needs to prevent any disruption in clinic services.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 6+ months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience as a medical assistant in an orthopedic or clinical setting is preferred.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, timekeeping payroll systems, and word processing/typing.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail, with experience handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong clinical skills, particularly in wound care, injections, and orthopedic practices.
- Ability to educate patients effectively and manage high-stress situations.
- None required, but certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, NCRMA) is preferred.
- Additional certifications such as Phlebotomy, Surgical Technologist, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Licensed Athletic Trainer are a plus.
