Automation Engineer
Full-Time
Location: Remote (50-75% Travel)
Forge Automation, the automation practice within AMBE Engineering, is growing - and we're looking for a hands-on Automation Engineer who can bridge design, data, and client problem-solving. You'll work directly with experienced system designers and project leads on automation concepts that integrate conveyors, ASRS, racking, robotics, and controls into cohesive material flow solutions. This role blends technical design, analytics, supplier coordination, and on-site collaboration with customers who are modernizing their operations - especially within the automotive and industrial sectors. If you enjoy creating clarity from complexity, translating operational needs into engineered layouts, and helping clients see what's possible through automation, this is your kind of role.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct site visits and facility assessments, capturing measurements, material flow data, and operational insights that inform design and ROI analysis.
• Build cost models and performance analyses to compare technologies such as ASRS, AMRs, conveyors, and manual handling options.
• Develop AutoCAD layouts showing equipment interfaces, racking configurations, conveyor routing, and operator interaction points.
• Identify and partner with OEMs and technology providers (conveyors, ASRS, robotics, controls, racking) to source and quote solutions that best align with each client's operational goals.
• Collaborate with suppliers and integration partners to validate specifications for controls, safety systems, and equipment integration.
• Contribute to client presentations, proposals, and reports with clear visuals and data-backed recommendations.
• Participate in internal design reviews and help refine Forge's standard tool sets and templates for scalable, repeatable system design.
Requirements
Qualifications:
• 3+ years experience in automation engineering, systems integration, or facility design for warehouse or manufacturing operations.
• Working knowledge of conveyors, racking systems, ASRS (automated storage & retrieval), and controls integration - ideally with exposure to both mechanical and electrical interfaces.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD for layout work and Excel / Power BI for modeling and analysis.
• Strong understanding of material flow, throughput, and system balancing principles.
• Excellent communication skills; able to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Naturally curious, detail-driven, and comfortable with ambiguity.
• Willingness to travel up to 75% for site walks, client workshops, and design coordination.
• Familiarity with automotive or tier-1 manufacturing operations is a plus, but not required.
