Job summary statement: The role of the Peer Recovery Coach is to provide non-clinical services intended to aid individuals in establishing and maintaining individual recovery from addiction and mental illness. The PRC will help people in recovery to improve their quality of life through connecting them to social, spiritual, and peer supports.

Essential Functions:
  • Assists clients in developing an Individual Recovery Action Plan;
  • Helps clients navigate recovery support systems and access resources including health and wellness, housing, employment, and other professional and non-professional services;
  • Facilitates peer support groups (NA/AA/HARP/Dual Recovery Group);
  • Serves as liaison to Consumer Advisory Board (CasaCAB) and coordinates calendar for CAB meetings, events, and training opportunities;
  • Collects client data and conduct follow up surveys to ensure long-term client engagement;
  • Assists clients with applying for health insurance;
  • Provides transportation assistance to and from aftercare treatment and support services;
  • Assists clients in feeling connected to a Community of Recovery through pro-social, recreational and cultural activities in a sober environment;
  • Shares personal recovery experiences and demonstrates and models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies;
  • Helps clients to modify attitudes and patterns of behavior by increasing understanding of self, personal problems, and client's part in creating them;
  • Provides clients with ongoing education regarding substance abuse, mental health, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, tobacco, nutrition and exercise and other health and wellness information;
  • Educates and supports clients in implementing a range of relapse prevention and harm-reduction strategies;
  • Works closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure client needs are met;
  • Attends weekly, monthly or annual team meetings including MDT;
  • Provides interpretation for clients, as needed;
  • Actively participates in weekly supervision with Program Director;
  • Serves as a liaison between administration, staff, clients, and volunteers; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience Required:
  • Minimum 2 years demonstrated personal recovery experience;
  • Bilingual Spanish/English required;
  • Experience with homelessness, mental illness, domestic violence;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English;
  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent required;
  • Knowledge of community/recovery resources;
  • Ability to work both as a team member and independently;
  • Understanding of relapse prevention and harm reduction techniques;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Crisis management skills;
  • Computer skills, minimum Microsoft Word;
  • Valid Massachusetts Drivers License; and;
  • Ability to meet the physical and training requirements of the position.
