Purpose or role of the position within the organization ( Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities):

The Honors College is seeking dedicated and motivated Honors College students who have been awarded federal work-study for the position of Honors College Assistant. This role offers a unique opportunity to actively contribute to the vibrant Honors College community by providing essential support in various areas, including maintaining Honors College spaces, assisting with events and programming, managing social media presence, and aiding in admissions-related activities. The Honors College Assistant will play a key role in enhancing the overall experience of Honors scholars and promoting the Honors College's mission of academic excellence and engagement.

Duties and Principal Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of Honors College spaces, ensuring they provide a conducive environment for study, collaboration, and engagement.
  • Assist in the execution of Honors College events and programming, including workshops, seminars, guest lectures, and social gatherings.
  • Curate and manage content for Honors College social media accounts, promoting upcoming events, sharing student achievements, and fostering a sense of community.
  • Collaborate with the Honors College team to support admissions-related events, providing information to prospective Honors students and sharing personal experiences .
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as organizing files, answering phones, preparing materials for events, and responding to inquiries.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the Honors College staff to discuss upcoming initiatives, provide input, and contribute ideas for enhancing the Honors experience.
  • Take on other responsibilities as assigned by the Honors College leadership team, contributing to the overall success and growth of the Honors College community.
Education Requirements: LIU student enrolled in an active degree program

Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:
  • Must be an active Honors College student currently enrolled in classes.
  • Should have been awarded federal work-study as part of their financial aid package.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation is a plus.
  • Enthusiasm for engaging with fellow Honors students and contributing to a dynamic academic community.
  • Reliable and punctual, with a positive and proactive attitude.
Rate of Pay : minimum hourly rate

Period of employment: Begin Date: 8/1/2025 End Date: 5/30/20256

Evaluation procedures and schedules :

Student workers will be evaluated throughout the academic year to ensure strong performance , professional growth, and alignment with the mission of the Honors College.

There will be five evaluation points:
  • Initial Check-In (September) - Confirms responsibilities, schedule, and expectations.
  • Mid-Fall Review (October) - Provides feedback on reliability, communication, and task completion.
  • End-of-Fall Review (December) - Summative assessment to determine spring responsibilities .
  • Mid-Spring Review (March) - Ensures continued progress and identifies support needs.
  • Final Review (May) - Overall performance summary and future recommendations.
Students will be assessed in the following areas:
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Professionalism and communication
  • Task accuracy and follow-through
  • Initiative and engagement with Honors College events and goals


Each evaluation includes verbal feedback and internal documentation. The process is developmental and designed to support students in building transferable skills for academic and career success.
