The Department of State Hospitals - Metropolitan is now accepting applications for multiple F ull-Time, Permanent Psychiatric Technician positions. Under general supervision, incumbents administer care to forensic, LPS and medically fragile patients; assist in planning and evaluation of nursing care; provide a basic level of general behavioral and psychiatric nursing care; and are expected to facilitate the rehabilitation of forensic clients and patients. Candidates must have excellent organizational skills, ability to problem solve, and good communication skills. Experience with computer systems is desired. Qualities sought are the ability to work well with others, good mediation skills, and a commitment to helping others.

Candidates must be willing to work in any Unit/Program and any shift to meet the needs of the facility.

TRAINING EXPECTATIONS: If selected it is mandatory that you attend New Employee Orientation (NEO) in its entirety. NEO can be scheduled up to 30 days for level of care staff (clinical).

Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a valid license to practice as a Psychiatric Technician issued by the BVNPTE. (Applicants who are within four months of completing the Psychiatric Technician curriculum accredited by the BVNPTE will be admitted to the examination, but they must secure this license before they will be eligible for appointment.) DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital has an open campus within a security perimeter. The hospital operates approximately 826 beds. The commitment categories of patients treated at DSH-Metropolitan: Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act, Incompetent to Stand Trial (PC 1370), Offenders with Mental Health Disorders (Penal Code Section 2964/2972/2974), Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (PC 1026).
