Our Company

At Teradata, we believe that people thrive when empowered with better information. That's why we built the most complete cloud analytics and data platform for AI. By delivering harmonized data, trusted AI, and faster innovation, we uplift and empower our customers-and our customers' customers-to make better, more confident decisions. The world's top companies across every major industry trust Teradata to improve business performance, enrich customer experiences, and fully integrate data across the enterprise.

What You'll Do

Teradata is seeking an exceptional Principle Data & AI Architect to join our newly formed Data and AI organization. This is a transformational role that will shape the future of AI and machine learning at enterprise scale, both within Teradata and for our customers globally.

As a Principal Data Science & AI Architect, you will be responsible for designing and implementing AI, data science, and machine learning solutions at enterprise scale. This role uniquely leverages Teradata's 'customer zero' approach, where you will innovate using Teradata's own data and AI infrastructure, enabling direct customer engagement and positioning of Teradata's products and services based on real-world implementation experience.

This position offers a rare opportunity to drive innovation from within, validate solutions in production environments, and directly influence how enterprises worldwide adopt and scale AI technologies.

Key Responsibilities

AI & Data Science Architecture

  • Design and architect enterprise-scale AI and machine learning solutions that demonstrate best practices for data science model development, deployment, and governance

  • Lead the evolution of Teradata's AI platform capabilities, including model lifecycle management, MLOps frameworks, and AI governance structures

  • Define architectural patterns and reference implementations for AI workloads across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments

  • Establish technical standards for model development, testing, validation, and deployment that can be replicated across customer implementations

Customer Zero Innovation

  • Leverage Teradata as 'customer zero' to develop, test, and validate AI solutions using our own enterprise data and infrastructure

  • Create compelling proof points and case studies from internal implementations that demonstrate the value and scalability of Teradata's AI capabilities

  • Transform internal AI initiatives into reusable patterns, frameworks, and best practices that can be packaged for customer adoption

  • Identify product gaps and enhancement opportunities through hands-on implementation experience

Enterprise AI Enablement

  • Develop comprehensive AI enablement strategies that accelerate enterprise adoption of machine learning and advanced analytics

  • Design and implement scalable MLOps pipelines that support the full model lifecycle from experimentation to production deployment

  • Build frameworks for responsible AI that ensure model explainability, fairness, bias detection, and compliance with regulatory requirements

  • Create architectural blueprints for integrating generative AI, large language models, and traditional ML within enterprise data ecosystems

Customer Engagement & Positioning

  • Engage directly with strategic customers to share insights, best practices, and lessons learned from Teradata's internal AI implementations

  • Position Teradata's AI and analytics platforms through technical workshops, executive briefings, and industry events

  • Collaborate with sales and pre-sales teams to translate technical capabilities into business value propositions

  • Contribute to thought leadership through whitepapers, technical blogs, conference presentations, and industry publications

What Makes This Role Unique

The Principle Data Science & AI Architect role at Teradata offers a distinctive opportunity that sets it apart from traditional data science leadership positions:

  • Customer Zero Advantage: You'll innovate using Teradata's own data and infrastructure, allowing you to build, test, and validate solutions in a real enterprise environment before taking them to market. This creates authentic proof points and eliminates the typical gap between theory and practice.

  • Direct Customer Impact: Your work will directly shape how enterprises worldwide implement AI at scale. You'll engage with customers from a position of credibility, sharing firsthand experience rather than theoretical frameworks.

  • Product Influence: Your implementation experience will directly influence Teradata's product roadmap. You'll work hand-in-hand with engineering and product teams to ensure our platforms meet real-world enterprise needs.

  • Thought Leadership Platform: Teradata's brand and market position provide a global platform for your expertise. You'll have opportunities to speak at major industry events, contribute to influential publications, and shape the broader conversation around enterprise AI.

  • Scale and Complexity: Work on challenges that few organizations face-processing petabytes of data, supporting thousands of concurrent users, ensuring mission-critical reliability, and enabling AI at true enterprise scale.

Who You'll Work With

  • Partner with Product Management to influence roadmap priorities based on real-world implementation experience

  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to provide feedback on platform capabilities and help shape future AI features

  • Work with Professional Services and Customer Success teams to codify best practices into repeatable methodologies

  • Mentor data scientists, ML engineers, and architects across the organization on AI best practices

What Makes You a Qualified Candidate

  • S. or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related technical field

  • 10+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, and AI with at least 5 years in architecture or technical leadership roles

  • Proven track record of designing and implementing enterprise-scale ML/AI solutions in production environments

  • Deep expertise in machine learning frameworks and MLOps platforms

  • Strong foundation in distributed computing, big data technologies, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Experience with modern data architectures including data lakes, lakehouses, and cloud data warehouses

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value for executive audiences

  • Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to technical and business stakeholders

  • Experience working in customer-facing roles such as consulting, solutions architecture, or technical evangelism

Technical Competencies

  • Machine Learning: Supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, ensemble methods, feature engineering

  • AI Technologies: Natural language processing, computer vision, generative AI, LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation

  • Programming: Python, R, SQL, Scala, Java; proficiency with notebooks

  • MLOps & DevOps: CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), model versioning, experiment tracking, monitoring

  • Model Governance: Model risk management, bias detection, explainability (SHAP, LIME), compliance frameworks

What You Will Bring

  • Prior experience with Teradata or other enterprise analytical platforms

  • Hands-on experience with generative AI, large language models, and foundation model integration

  • Knowledge of responsible AI practices, model governance, and regulatory compliance (GDPR, CCPA, AI Act)

  • Experience building and scaling data science teams or centers of excellence

  • Publications, patents, or open-source contributions in the AI/ML space

  • Industry recognition through speaking engagements, thought leadership, or technical community involvement

  • Domain expertise in specific industries such as financial services, healthcare, retail, or telecommunications
