Location: Kuparuk, Alaska
Schedule: 14 Days On / 14 Days Off, 12-hour days
  Position Overview
The Environmental Specialist V will support Capital Projects and Wells (CPO/Wells) activities in Alpine and Kuparuk, serving as a senior field environmental resource. This role provides technical guidance, coordinates environmental compliance programs, and represents the operator during regulatory and agency interactions.
You’ll work closely with HSE, project, and wells teams to ensure field activities meet all applicable environmental regulations and company standards in remote Arctic/Alaska conditions.
  Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a technical environmental resource to Capital Projects and Wells teams, providing direction and support to field personnel.
  • Coordinate programs to validate compliance with environmental regulations related to:
    • Waste disposal and material reuse
    • Waste minimization
    • Wildlife interactions and protection
    • Land use and land disturbance
    • Water quality and water use
    • Spill prevention, reporting, and response
    • Other field environmental issues as required
  • Identify environmental risks, issues, and mitigation strategies, and communicate effectively with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) and field leadership.
  • Conduct onsite audits, inspections, and site visits to assess field activities and verify environmental compliance.
  • Represent ConocoPhillips during agency inspections, maintaining professional relationships with local, state, and federal regulators.
  • Support environmental permitting, field monitoring, and study design (spills, waste, water, land, wildlife, remediation) as needed.
  • Assist with environmental incident reporting, investigation, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports to support regulatory and internal environmental/HSE requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in Alaska environmental compliance, including some combination of:
    • Spills and spill response
    • Waste management and minimization
    • Water use and water quality
    • Drinking water systems
    • Land issues and remediation
    • Wildlife issues and field monitoring/study design
    • Permitting and regulatory interface
  • Experience supporting field operations (oil and gas, capital projects, wells, or similar) in Alaska.
  • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform field inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with field crews, HSE, project teams, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in remote, Arctic/Alaska environments on a rotational schedule.
Work Conditions
  • Rotation: 14 days on / 14 days off, 12-hour shifts.
  • Field-based role supporting operations at Alpine and Kuparuk.
  • Must be able to work in extreme cold, remote locations, and camp-style environments, with travel to and between field locations as required.
