A rapidly evolving and highly technical AI company is seeking a Lead Research Engineer to join an innovative and high-performing team focused on developing the next generation of agentic LLM systems specifically for software engineering. What You'll Contribute

  • Design and implement extensive LLM evaluations, benchmarks, and experiments tailored to code comprehension and generation tasks.
  • Create tools, datasets, and research frameworks that assess LLM reasoning, reliability, grounding, and reducing hallucinations.
  • Work hand-in-hand with product and engineering teams to enhance model performance in real-world developer workflows.
  • Engage with leading LLM models from various providers to analyze performance, provide organized feedback, and influence improvements in accuracy and reliability.
  • Prototype innovative features for autonomous systems, focusing on retrieval, planning, debugging, and automated coding tasks.
  • Participate in model fine-tuning and alignment efforts, including pipelines for SFT, LoRA, DPO, or RLHF.
  • Develop production-grade research tools and evaluation pipelines scalable to actual engineering environments.

Your Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, research engineering, or related fields.
  • Solid coding skills, with proficiency in production settings (Python preferred).
  • Direct experience with LLMs, whether through training, fine-tuning, benchmarking, or evaluation.
  • Familiarity with transformer architectures, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or reasoning-focused LLM workflows.
  • A deep passion for code generation, AI developer tools, or program synthesis through professional or personal projects.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess model behavior, identify failure points, and ensure reliability.
  • A collaborative spirit thriving in a fast-paced environment with a perspective of end-to-end ownership.

Additional Skills (Bonus Points)

  • Experience with AI systems related to code, including program synthesis, automated debugging, static analysis, or code search.
  • Previous experience with agentic or multi-step reasoning systems.
  • Contributions to evaluation frameworks, benchmarks, or open-source model software.
  • Knowledge in compilers, programming languages, distributed systems, or developer tools.
  • Research experience at prestigious universities, research labs, or advanced ML teams.
