Financial Accountant Opportunity

Seize the chance to redefine your career with real opportunities and impactful work

(NOTE: A human reviews every application at Oceans. Therefore, please apply for only one position and only once a year. If you are a better fit for another role, we will route your application accordingly. If we are not quite ready for you, we will reach back out later.)

At Oceans, we empower talented individuals to access opportunities that would otherwise be unreachable while supporting entrepreneurs around the world. We call our community members Divers; they dive deep to tackle complex business challenges and drive real impact. In doing so, they enhance their skills, broaden their expertise, and advance their careers, all while remaining close to their family and friends.

As a Financial Accountant, you will collaborate with one of our clients from an early-stage startup or a small to mid-sized business, providing them with clarity, stability, and financial insights. This is a hands-on role tailored for someone who excels at solving real-world business challenges, beyond just balancing the books. You will bring structure to chaos, apply accounting principles in a business-centric manner, and assist leaders in translating financial data into actionable operational decisions.

Accountability

Your success as a Financial Accountant will be evaluated based on your capability to ensure financial accuracy, aid strategic decision-making, and help clients maintain operational clarity and control. Here’s how you will create value:

  • Core Accounting & Reporting
    • Lead month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and expense allocations.
    • Ensure accurate transaction classification across systems such as QBO, Xero, and NetSuite.
    • Prepare timely and insightful financial reports for both internal stakeholders and external partners.
    • Interpret and apply accounting standards (local, IFRS, or equivalent) with pragmatic application.
  • Client Partnership & Financial Advisory
    • Manage AR/AP cycles and perform cash flow analyses to support daily operations.
    • Conduct variance analysis and clearly explain the rationale behind the numbers to non-finance stakeholders.
    • Assist with audit preparation and serve as a liaison with external auditors and accounting partners.
    • Support various financial needs, including system implementations, investor reporting, or due diligence.
  • Process Optimization & Best Practices
    • Stay informed on technical developments and evolving accounting practices.
    • Recommend process improvements that boost efficiency, compliance, and clarity for clients.
    • Help construct scalable finance systems that effectively support business growth and complexity.

Colleagues

Your primary stakeholders will include your client, cross-functional business operations teams, and occasionally external auditors or consultants. Clear communication, sound judgment, and a commitment to accuracy will be key in all your interactions. At Oceans, your Operations Manager will provide you with guidance and support, enhancing your success in this role and facilitating your continuous professional growth.

Skills and Qualifications

At Oceans, we value T-shaped individuals who possess deep expertise in one area while having broad curiosity and interests. In your role as a Financial Accountant, your vertical focus will be on financial accuracy and reporting, while your horizontal strengths should encompass process thinking, communication, and business judgment.

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Language Skills: Professional fluency in English, with excellent communication skills (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in accounting and finance. Experience with a Big Four or national accounting firm is preferred.
  • Tools: Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QBO), Xero, or NetSuite is preferred.
  • Certifications: CA/CPA qualification is a plus.
  • Education: An undergraduate degree in Business Administration, ideally with a focus in Accounting or Finance.
  • Analytical Strength: Attention to detail, with the ability to perform variance analysis and identify inconsistencies.
  • Process Discipline: Ability to execute month-end activities and reconciliations with precision and meet deadlines consistently.

Diversity of experience is fundamental to Oceans. You will work inclusively with individuals from various backgrounds, ensuring the respect and dignity of both individual and collective perspectives are upheld.

During the interview process, you will showcase your skills in the following areas:

  • Accounting Acumen: How do you ensure accurate and timely reporting across systems and clients?
  • Client Collaboration: Can you translate financial concepts into terms that non-financial stakeholders can understand?
  • Process Thinking: How do you introduce structure and stability into complex workflows?
  • Audit Coordination & Compliance: How have you managed internal and external audits while ensuring compliance?
  • Adaptability: How do you manage changing business environments and conflicting priorities?

Role Specifications

This role is designed to be remote, featuring a split shift that will require some overlap with our client's time zone. However, you will need to attend in-person training sessions during your initial 90 days with us. During the offer process, we will share more information about our benefits and compensation philosophy, taking into account both market trends and individual factors.

About Oceans

Oceans builds remote teams linking the top 1% of global talent with visionary leaders. With us, you are not just doing a job; you are redefining your career with opportunities crafted to unlock your full potential. We welcome the opportunity to discuss the different facets of our business during your interview and encourage you to ask questions about our direction and growth.
