Overview

Ardelle Associates, a veteran-owned company providing Consulting and Support Services to government agencies, is seeking a Civil Rights Investigator/Intake Specialist to join their team in support of the Department of Justice (DOJ), U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) in Cleveland, Ohio. The ideal candidate should be highly skilled, detail-oriented, and proficient in document analysis related to Civil Rights cases, with experience using Microsoft Office applications, U.S. Citizenship, and the ability to make responsible decisions on short notice while adapting to unexpected developments.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct preliminary inquiry into allegations and draft memoranda recommending whether to open a full civil investigation. For full investigations, plan and conduct the investigation independently.
  • Assess the specific nature of allegations.
  • Review allegations and supporting materials; conduct preliminary research.
  • Plan, coordinate, conduct and evaluate in-depth affirmative civil rights investigations at locations throughout the District.
  • Draft documents and data requests designed to obtain all relevant information.
  • In consultation with civil rights AUSAs, plan and conduct on-site investigations, including interviews with victims, witnesses, managers and officials.
  • When appropriate, utilize Concordance, Casemap and/or Sanction software to plan and develop timelines or documentation that compile and present information gathered from the investigation for full analysis.
  • Plan and manage databases cataloging voluminous evidence and investigative reports related to allegations of federal civil rights violations; extract and categorize material for inclusion in databases.
  • Coordinate with information system personnel and with civil rights AUSAs to arrange necessary litigation support.
  • Analyze information contained in applicable databases, identify supporting facts and evidence that may become apparent.
  • Prepare reports for review by civil rights AUSAs, USAO management and the Civil Rights Division.
  • Obtain information as necessary, confer and coordinate with the Civil Rights Division and other DOJ components when required.
  • Plan and conduct background legal research as directed by civil rights AUSAs.
  • Prepare factual summaries and evaluations based on investigations; develop recommendations as to actions that may be justified against particular jurisdictions or agencies, in conjunction with civil rights AUSAs.
Requirements
  • A college degree.
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain adjudication for the requisite background investigation.
  • At least six (6) years of experience working with law enforcement and/or enforcement of Civil Rights statutes.
  • Familiarity with Civil Rights statutes, including the Fair Housing Act and Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Experience and expertise necessary to perform the tasks and duties of the position listed.
