The Position

The mission of the Adult Transition Center is to provide student-centered and accessible services to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities so that they can feel safe and welcome on Ocean County College Campus, empowering them to succeed. This position follows the curriculum and prepares lessons to adhere to curriculum.

The individual will serve as a student resource, mentor and advisor while also assessing student progress toward course completion. The Adult Transition Center Instructor position will be part of the Ocean County Achievement Center and will report directly to the Program Coordinator.

This position works 20 hours during daytime on weekdays. Hours may fall within 8:30am to 5:30pm. Exact schedule is TBD.
This position may require occasional evening and weekend hours for program activities support.
What You Will Do

  1. Provide course instruction and facilitation as outlined by program curriculum; develop and utilize a course syllabus for training sessions, workshops, and fieldtrip activities; follow established program guidelines, grant objectives, benchmarks, and program requirements.
  2. Develop lesson plans to allow for open-enrollment and completion of specified career exploration and college readiness. Lessons includes instruction on work readiness skill development (i.e. job interview), basic life skills development (i.e. proper hygiene), and independent living (i.e. kitchen safety, renting) with resilience and perseverance that leads to self-sufficiency and success.
  3. Collects, maintains, and submits programmatic data to the immediate manager for review and analysis; Creates student progress reports as needed for grant.
  4. Coordinate and schedule with certification instructors and field trips as outlined in the OSHE Center for Adult Tranisitions grant proposal. Include networking with other programs on campus to foster connections and relationship building.
  5. Serve as a student resource, mentor and advisor to students in program matters while also assessing student progress toward the course completion and/or eligibility for certification.
  6. Maintain all student records of attendance and performance within the classroom; provides timely, quality driven responses to students through electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
  7. Under the guidance of the designated management, provide assistance with implementing and maintaining on file a plan for evaluating the effectiveness of the course and/or program.
  8. Facilitate and monitor digital literacy skills and other certification trainings such Customer Service & Sales and assist to ensure successful completion.
  9. Utilize online resources and technology platforms for instruction.
  10. Participate in meetings and events in order to align instruction, monitor progress, identify issues, and build curriculum; network and collaborate with staff, administration, and advisor/case manager to improve effectiveness and increase the success of student transition.
  11. Related duties, initiatives and projects as assigned.
The Successful Candidate Must Have
  1. Degree in closely related field or equivalent professional experience commensurate with subject/course being taught.
  2. At least two years of proven experience preparing written communications, presentation and delivering and facilitating meetings, training sessions and/or teaching classes or seminars.
  3. Two years' experience working in an educational environment with individuals diagnosed with an intellectual or developmental disability.
  4. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software programs as required of the position.
  5. Knowledge of disability laws and regulations, including ADA as amended and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Even Better If You Have
  1. Two or more years of prior experience with providing guidance on future career and/or work readiness facilitation.
