Summary You will serve as a Shipfitter (Flange Turner) in the Structural and Fabrication Shop (Code 920) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. The Secretary of Defense has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze. Responsibilities You will cut, shape, and straighten hot and cold plates and structural members used in ship construction by the use of heat, power-driven machines and special hand tools. You will operate oxy/acetylene gas heating torches. You will heat and bend characteristics of metal used in the overhaul and repair of ships. You will apply methods and procedures used in the bending and shaping of ship structural plates and shapes. You will work from templates, mock-up molds and lay-out markings. You will operate and set up various types of bending and shaping machines. You will use hand tools such as hand heating dogs, moonbars, and beveling bars. You will fabricate steel templates and steel mock-ups, working from wooden templates and wooden mock-ups furnished by mold loft. You will read blueprints, job orders or JIC specifications, sketches, manuals, memos and other trade-related information. You will make shop calculations using ordinary arithmetic, geometry and other trade related mathematical methods. You will sets up and operate various structural shop machinery such as plate rolls, presses, bending brakes, shears, etc. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Education Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Additional vacancies may be filled by this announcement. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
