Network Support Specialist - Edge Networking Team

Join our dynamic Edge Networking team within the Bureau of Infrastructure under the Pennsylvania Office of Administration. We are seeking a highly skilled Network Support Specialist to provide top-notch network support for edge networks across various agencies within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Location

This position is based in the vibrant city of Harrisburg, PA. The role offers part-time telework flexibility, but candidates must reside within the Greater Harrisburg Area to accommodate occasional on-site work at Commonwealth-owned facilities.

Position Purpose

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the smooth operation of local and wide area network infrastructure. This includes planning, designing, maintaining, and integrating network systems while providing input into the edge networking architecture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, maintain, and manage network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, SD-WAN edge appliances, and wireless infrastructure.
  • Perform network management functions using industry tools to monitor, test, verify, troubleshoot, and resolve network issues.
  • Assist in planning and designing LAN/WAN network architecture, including network bandwidth analysis and capacity planning.
  • Coordinate change management efforts and participate in trouble ticket resolution and reporting.
  • Evaluate current and future network needs and prepare technical solutions and recommendations.
  • Ensure all networks meet or exceed security requirements set by the Office of Administration.
  • Create and maintain documentation for network configurations and deployments.
  • Support remote IT staff and agency operations with network-related issues.
  • Communicate effectively with employees, vendors, and business partners.
Qualifications
  • 4-5 years of experience in Network Switching.
  • 3-4 years of experience in Network Routing.
  • CCNA certification is desired; 2-3 years of experience preferred.
  • CCNP certification is beneficial; 1-3 years of experience preferred.
  • Experience with SD-WAN is a plus; 2 years preferred.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assess issues and make appropriate decisions for resolution.
  • Stay current with new and emerging network-related trends and technologies.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
