Position Summary

A Designer I is a vital part of our team, responsible for designing essential building systems, creating technical documents, and performing engineering calculations while collaborating with project teams.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities

  • Drafting & Design
    • Collaborate with experienced design staff to perform calculations and develop basic engineering systems.
    • Create system layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics.
    • Review shop drawings to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
    • Develop or modify reports and designs for projects.
    • Mentor less experienced designers.
  • Business Development
    • Support initiatives for business development and client engagement.
    • Engage in industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Client Experience
    • Adopt a client-centric approach in all interactions.
    • Communicate effectively with clients to clearly define project requirements and scope.
    • Assist in addressing client and architect inquiries.
    • Visit job sites occasionally to assess conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Continuous Learning & Development
    • Identify and pursue opportunities to close knowledge gaps in the industry.
    • Stay informed about industry software such as Revit, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office.
    • Research emerging products, trends, and industry codes.

Required Education, Experience, Licenses & Technical Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or architectural engineering) and one year of relevant experience or four years of experience with a high school diploma is required.
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is preferred.
  • Relevant technical certifications (e.g., BEMP, CPD, CDP) are a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and the A&E industry.
  • Preferred proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Strong technical aptitude and comfort with various software systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities.
  • A collaborative spirit with an openness to feedback.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and engineering design software.

Physical & Other Requirements

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing and working on a computer.
  • Occasional travel may be required (10-15%).
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
