Recreation & Parks operates many state-of-the-art facilities to citizens throughout the City of Burlington.
What you will do:
The City of Burlington's Recreation & Parks Department is hiring a Fitness Room Trainer for the Kernodle Senior Center. Responsibilities include managing health and wellness programs for seniors 55+, supervising fitness room operations, providing member orientations, conducting exercise classes, maintaining memberships and passes, and supporting special events. Additional duties include light housekeeping, addressing maintenance concerns, and maintaining fitness equipment.
Examples of Duties
- Program Development and Implementation: Plan, design, modify, and implement exercise programs tailored to seniors ages 55 and older.
- Instruction and Safety Monitoring: Provide clear direction and demonstrate movements while ensuring participants' safety and ability to function effectively in the class.
- Equipment Training and Safety: Train participants on the proper principles and techniques for using exercise equipment in the fitness room.
- Equipment Maintenance and Reporting: Report any equipment damages or replacement needs to the Center Director in a timely manner.
- Membership and Waiver Management: Maintain up-to-date records of fitness room memberships, punch cards, and waivers for all participants.
- Communication and Collaboration: Maintain regular communication with center staff and the director to ensure smooth operation of programs.
- Facility Maintenance: Assist with daily housekeeping tasks to maintain cleanliness and organization in the fitness rooms.
- Safety and Policy Adherence: Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to the City's safety policies to maintain a secure environment.
- Certification Maintenance: Maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills when interacting with staff, participants, and outside agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Proof of or ability to complete First Aid and CPR/AED certification is required.
- Candidates with appropriate education or certifications and at least one year of experience delivering classes to senior citizens age 55 and over.
Supplemental Information
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Work in this position is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amounts of force constantly to move objects.
- Employee must have the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Working conditions may include both inside or outside working conditions; however, the majority of work is inside. Employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
The City of Burlington does not offer benefits to part-time positions which require less than 1000 work hours per calendar year.
