A highly innovative automation engineering team in Brooklyn Park is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to develop custom automated machinery used in advanced manufacturing environments. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a fast-moving, hands-on, entrepreneurial setting and who enjoys taking ownership of mechanical design efforts from initial concept through equipment installation and production launch.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
- Apply fundamental mechanical engineering principles, analytical methods, and 3D CAD tools to create complete mechanical design concepts for automated equipment.
- Develop systems that balance performance, cost efficiency, manufacturability, and reliability while meeting all project scope and schedule requirements.
- Identify technical risks early and rapidly produce prototypes, fixtures, or test methods to validate assumptions and reduce project uncertainty.
- Conduct engineering analyses as needed to ensure that designs comply with performance, safety, and regulatory expectations.
- Participate in and lead engineering discussions, design reviews, project status updates, and acceptance meetings.
- Maintain clear communication with the Project Manager regarding technical progress, schedule impacts, open issues, and budget considerations.
- Support fabrication and assembly activities by answering technical questions, clarifying design details, and collaborating with build teams.
- Contribute to mechanical debug activities to ensure successful equipment runoff, testing, and readiness for production environments.
- Follow and enforce all internal processes and standard operating procedures related to machine design and build workflows.
- Ability to travel up to 20 percent to support design reviews, equipment build, installation activities, or customer acceptance events.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience designing complex, custom automated machinery or related mechanical systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to turn conceptual ideas into practical design solutions.
- High proficiency in 3D solid modeling (SolidWorks strongly preferred).
- Experience performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or similar stress analysis techniques.
