Controls Engineer

As a Controls Engineer, you will serve as a vital liaison between the Machine Design, Industrialization, Production, and Maintenance teams to enhance efficiency and collaboration. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting electrical control systems for manufacturing equipment.
Responsibilities
- Design electrical controls, including schematics, panel layouts, component selection, and ordering.
- Develop PLC and robot programs and document schematics and programs.
- Oversee the electrical build and installation of equipment.
- Manage control-related issues for equipment built by external contractors, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
- Evaluate and improve existing or future equipment, focusing on efficiency and cost reduction.
- Assist with troubleshooting and repair of complex equipment failures.
- Provide training on machine operation and maintenance for new equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 2-4 years of related experience in controls engineering.
- Strong knowledge of electrical component selection, panel layout design, and safety practices.
- Familiarity with mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and data acquisition systems in manufacturing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and PLC programming.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley, PLC troubleshooting, RS Logic, Automation, panel design, and Robotics.
- Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with Engineering, Production, and other plant and office personnel.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good computer skills with a working knowledge of electrical component selection and panel layout design, including materials, safety, and labeling practices.
The role involves working in office, lab, and manufacturing environments. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required. Occasional travel is necessary. The position requires interaction with various departments, ensuring a collaborative and dynamic work environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
