Job Title: Business Analyst

Duration: 12 Months
Location: Columbia, SC - Onsite, 5 days per week
Position Overview

The Business Analyst will assess organizational needs, analyze current and future-state business processes, and support solution design efforts for both IT and non-technical processes. The role focuses on gathering, documenting, and validating business requirements while collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders.
Daily Duties & Responsibilities
  • Analyze business needs, existing workflows, and future process requirements.
  • Document business processes, functional requirements, and technical specifications.
  • Evaluate options and provide recommendations for technology and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support requirement interpretation, testing, and solution delivery.
  • Identify risks, issues, and actionable insights to support project success.
  • Participate in requirements management, including traceability, status reporting, change control, and version control.
  • Research and maintain business rules, requirements, and models within appropriate repositories.
  • Engage with stakeholders such as vendors, government agencies, partners, and internal teams.
  • Provide insights on buy-versus-build decisions when needed.
  • Perform other project-related duties as assigned.
General Responsibilities
  • Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Understand both business domain needs and technical system capabilities.
  • Analyze business operations to recognize gaps, strengths, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support business process reengineering as new technologies or system enhancements are introduced.
  • Convert high-level business needs into detailed functional specifications.
  • Facilitate communication and ensure alignment from requirements definition through implementation.
  • Monitor industry and technology trends and advise stakeholders on potential solutions.
  • Provide clear communication, both written and verbal, across all organizational levels.
Required Skills (Ranked by Importance)
  • 7+ years of experience in commercial healthcare.
  • 3+ years of experience working with State Medicaid payer system integration and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of cross-functional project workflows.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid Information Technology Architecture (MITA) business architecture principles.
  • Knowledge of healthcare data structures, EDI processes, and related file formats.
  • Proven ability to innovate across business processes, methodologies, and technologies.
  • Strong communication skills across both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse professional office environment.
Education & Additional Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare, IT, or a related field.
  • 7+ years in commercial healthcare.
  • 3+ years integrating or delivering Medicaid payer systems.
  • Experience with MITA-aligned initiatives.
Preferred Skills
  • Subject matter expertise in Medicaid or healthcare insurance (operations or project-side).
  • Experience with MMIS (Medicaid Management Information Systems).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project or similar project management tools.
