Job Description:

  • As a Pharmacy Operations Leader, you will oversee daily non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities, ensuring a seamless pharmacy workflow and an exceptional patient experience. This role requires you to serve as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.

  • Your responsibilities include operating pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. You will supervise pharmacy technicians and cashiers, ensuring compliance with company policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics under the guidance of a pharmacist.

  • You will manage the selection, scheduling, and professional development of pharmacy technician staff. Leading training, coaching, and performance management, you will make key decisions regarding performance management, including discipline and termination.

Customer Engagement

  • Engage with customers and patients by greeting them warmly and offering assistance with products and services. Address customer complaints, respond to requests promptly, and resolve non-clinical questions to foster a positive customer experience while showcasing customer service best practices.

  • Build robust relationships with customers by anticipating their needs and proactively recommending services to enhance their experience with the pharmacy.

Operational Excellence

  • Assist pharmacists in delivering patient care tasks such as patient registration, prescription data entry, and medication preparation. Handle patient and physician calls professionally under pharmacist supervision as permitted by law.

  • Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work within the pharmacy, ensuring tasks are completed timely and maintaining accountability for efficient operations.

  • Prepare and file necessary reports and records as directed by the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist, ensuring compliance with company and governmental requirements.

  • Manage daily pharmacy workflow and strive for operational excellence. Organize the pharmacy schedule, recommend staffing allocations, and ensure the environment is clean, stocked, and orderly.

  • Ensure compliance with business and pharmacy inventory management processes under pharmacist supervision, including preparing for annual inventory.

  • Lead new technology and process implementations within the pharmacy, ensuring smooth transitions and engaging the team in action planning. Maintain equipment functionality and security protocols collaboratively with the Pharmacy Manager.

  • Communicate any prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and adhere to company policies and procedures related to pharmacy errors.

  • Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims, effectively resolving customer issues and preventing payment rejections through proactive follow-up.

  • Support the Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service.

  • Manage the Community Outreach Portal and at the direction of the Pharmacy Manager, coordinate pharmacist assignments to immunization clinics and community events, while nurturing retail partnerships.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead performance management processes for technicians, including decisions related to discipline, adhering to company policies and compliance with state and federal laws.

  • Responsible for the hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling of pharmacy technicians, ensuring they complete training in a timely manner per established guidelines.

  • Identify training needs among team members in pharmacy operations and provide necessary support through hands-on training or assignments.

  • Assist the Pharmacy Manager in ensuring all team member certifications and licenses remain active and compliant with regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure adherence to company policies for recruitment, training, and record retention in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.

Personal Development & Communication

  • Maintain PTCB certification and stay current with industry knowledge through ongoing education.

  • Seek professional growth by monitoring performance, soliciting feedback, and leveraging mentorship opportunities.

  • Communicate effectively with the pharmacy team, relaying key information and participating in meetings with the Store Manager.

External Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

  • PTCB or ExCPT certification (not applicable in Puerto Rico).

  • A minimum of one-year experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital environment.

  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (not applicable in Puerto Rico).

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

  • Must obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (excluding Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in people management or leadership roles.

  • Experience at Walgreens with an 'Exceeding Expectation' performance evaluation.
