Job Title: SAP Java Developer

Location: 100% remote. Hiring manager prefers resource to work in a hybrid environment (St. Paul, MN) which currently means working 8-10 days in a month at facility and being available for occasional off-hour on-call support.

Contract: June 24th, 2024 - Dec 31, 2024. This is a contract only position.

Interview Process: 1 round
  • Single panel interview with HM and 2-3 others. No coding. technical questions about how they would solve a certain problem. HM will be looking for culture fit.
Position Summary:

Securian Financial is running a best-in-class technology portfolio and this role plays an integral part in shaping the firm's processes, standards, best practices, and strategies. The right candidate will have strong functional, analytical, and business process skills, be able to maintain positive relationships with business and vendor stakeholders and be responsible for efficient issue resolution and escalation to maintain investment platform functionality.

This role is part of a fast-paced agile team relied upon for delivering technology solutions for Securian Financials' FPE

Must have:
  • 10+ years Full Stack Java App Development
  • Financial systems (SAP or similar ERP)
  • SQL
  • AWS
  • See internal notes for details
Nice to have's:
  • AWS Certification
  • Computer Science, Finance, and/or Business Degrees
  • Customer Focused

  • Understand Batch scheduling, auditing, & Financial/operational reporting
Requirements:
  • Self-motivated and independent with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility for work.
  • Solid creative problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with team members, business users, stakeholders, subject matter experts, and vendors to help navigate through problems, decisions, and related implications.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, with experience working both independently, and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information and facilitate understanding of system capabilities and limitations to non-technical users.
  • 3-6 years of experience in financial systems like SAP.
  • A software development background, focused on product/application configuration and debugging.
  • Proficient in one of these or similar: Java, Python, REST, and/or SOAP
  • Knowledge of and ability to develop in one of these or similar: AWS, ABAP, HANA SDI, and/or Informatica.
  • Strategic thinker, analytical, and results driven.
  • Proficient in agile methods.
  • Works with minimal direction, flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities and schedules, handle multiple issues simultaneously, and to manage stressful situations.
  • Computer Science, Finance, and/or Business degrees.
  • Understands batch scheduling, auditing, & financial/operational reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
Job responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, System Architect, and business partners to identify and elicit technology needs and work with the scrum team on identifying solutions.
  • Help the Product Owner document the technology needs and acceptance criteria in user story format.
  • Be an advocate for quality and testing on the agile team, ensuring content is testable.
  • Develop and maintain technical and end user oriented documentation of system and business processes.
  • Grow and maintain knowledge of products, plans, business processes, and system applications.
  • Build and maintain business knowledge and strong relationships with team members, business users, other Securian teams, auditors, and vendors to help navigate through problems, decisions, and related implications.
  • Assist with batch process resolution and escalations for the finance ecosystem to include setting up new jobs, updating jobs, and providing troubleshooting / root cause analysis.
