Description

We are seeking a Transit Dispatcher to schedule and coordinate vehicles and passenger trips via dispatching software; dispatch vehicles; and to participate in a variety of administrative and clerical tasks related to assigned area of work.

Essential Job Functions
  • Monitor and respond to a variety of calls including two-way radios and mobile phones; verify and monitor staff unit locations; record all service calls; prepare, prioritize and relay transportation requests including emergency situations.
  • Respond to all service calls received in person, via phone or e-mail with the highest standards of customer service.
  • Schedule daily bus routes in response to passenger service requests using dispatch computer scheduling software; review, organize and maintain trip manifests to maximize route efficiency.
  • Distribute transit tickets, process new clients into dispatching software.
  • Maintain written and dispatching software-generated log of all service requests, update client information, driver hours, mileage and passenger information for reporting purposes.
  • Respond to all calls and service requests promptly and with courtesy.
  • Research customer service issues through dispatching software and AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) systems.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of files and filing systems; prepare, maintain and update various records.
  • Respond to emergency situations as requested including hazardous and severe weather conditions which may involve fires, floods and tornadoes; coordinate with police and emergency dispatchers as required.
  • Collect, record and prepare reports regarding transportation services; verify driver logs; distribute information to appropriate Transit employees.
  • Prepare a variety of correspondence, reports and documents as assigned.
  • Coordinate with drivers regarding vehicle maintenance and driver fueling.
  • May be required to perform tasks associated with providing coverage for driver absences or other vehicle breakdowns.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.


Requirements

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess and maintain and valid Kentucky driver's license at time of hire.

Possession of a class B (minimum) Commerial Driver's License with Air Brake and Passenger endorsements preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of three (3) years' experience dispatching and/or driving daily routes preferred.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from High School or equivalent.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Communications center environment; exposure to computer screens; work in an office setting with regular exposure to the public. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time. May require occasional standing, walking, stooping, lifting, pulling, and pushing.

Work Schedule will be Monday through Friday with overtime when needed.
