Summer Sports Director
Under the direction of the Canton Parks and Recreation Director and Assistant Director, the Summer Sports Director will plan, execute and direct week long sports camps and assist with sport clinics and leagues for the Canton Parks and Recreation Department. There will also be opportunities to assist with other sports programs, such as flag football in the fall and basketball in the winter. Responsibilities of the position include staff supervision, keeping kids engaged, program planning and delivery.
Essential Functions:
- Plan, organize, and implement daily and weekly sports activities for campers of various ages and abilities.
- Supervise and support camp counselors during sports sessions.
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, set up, and stored each day.
- Create a positive and encouraging atmosphere that promotes participation and teamwork.
- Adapt activities to meet the needs, interests and abilities of all participants.
- Enforce camp safety rules and procedures; respond promptly to injuries or incidents.
- Assist with general camp activities and special events as needed.
- Communicate effectively with recreation staff, parents and participants.
- Follow and support the policies, procedures and expectations of the Department and the Town of Canton.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Possess, or working toward, a degree in sports management, recreation, sports medicine or related field
- Prior experience in recreation, athletics, youth coaching, officiating or summer camp programming preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of youth development and the ability to apply appropriate behavior management techniques as necessary
- Knowledge of basketball, lacrosse, baseball, flag football, soccer and other sports
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to organize and manage groups of children in an outdoor setting
- Valid driver's license required
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred
This is a seasonal, temporary position -
30-40 hours per week during summer Parks & Recreation programs
Qualifications
Bachelors degree (or in process of obtaining degree) in sports management, recreation, sports medicine or related field. Valid driver's license required. CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred.
