Job Summary

This position serves as both the Lab Manager for the Bjorkman Lab and a contributing researcher on a variety of complex, ongoing scientific projects. Managerial responsibilities include conducting safety training for new and current lab members, coordinating equipment installs, maintenance and repairs, overseeing renovation and construction activities within the lab, and managing the ordering, organization, and inventory of lab reagents and supplies. In addition to these administrative duties, the role involves applying scientific knowledge while performing complex scientific research and supporting graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other Bjorkman Lab personnel in experimental work, tissue culture maintenance, and other laboratory operations.
Essential Job Duties

  • Ordering/organization/inventory of lab reagents and supplies.
  • Administrative duties such as updating, writing, and managing protocols for the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee(IACUC), etc.
  • Training staff, postdocs, graduate students, undergraduate students, and volunteers on safety procedures, experimental procedures, etc.
  • Install and maintain new and existing, highly sophisticated equipment to keep the lab running smoothly.
  • Oversee building and lab renovations and construction activities within the lab.
  • Design and cloning of expression constructs.
  • Expression and purification of recombinant proteins.
  • Design, perform, and analyze binding experiments and structural biology.
  • BSL-2 tissue culture maintenance, cell line development, and assays.
  • Microscopy (light, fluorescent, confocal, SEM, TEM), including preparation of samples.
  • mRNA synthesis.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • MS in Biology or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience with lab management in a biology lab.
  • 10+ years of laboratory research experience.
  • Experience with BSL-2 training and experimentation.

Hiring Range

$75,000 - $110,000 Per Year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
